When you lift your truck, with longer or stiffer springs, the wheel still travels through the same arc it did before when the spring compresses. It still hits the same end-stops on the steering rack, and the same bump stops on the lower arm. The geometry has not changed.

Now, a lot of guys will change their geometry with new upper control arms, wheel spacers, etc. But that’s not what we are discussing here. Lifting your truck with new stiffer or longer springs, is kinda the same effect as removing the engine. The front is going to sit higher, but everything else is as it was. If you didn’t rub on your mudflap before, you won’t rub after the lift either, and vice versa. If you did rub, the lift won’t solve it.

Spacer lifts are different as they limit up travel and the wheel cannot stuff as high into the wheel arch, which can eliminate the chance of rubbing.

    Interesting. Good info thanks.

I “touched” my flaps with stock
Suspension and now with 2” lift it doesn’t “touch” at all. Hmm

It may touch if you stuff the wheel right up. There’s also the possibility they changed your alignment when they lifted the truck, which I imagine they did. There is adjustment in the factory LCAs for caster and camber, so your wheel can be shifted around within the wheel well, though this is not specifically a result of the lift itself.

Just a couple handy pictures for people trying to decide “how much bigger are these tires than 265/70/17 etc?”. Both pictures are of 275’s on 7” wide Toyota rims. You can go look at your truck and compare to these.

I drove at exact same spots at same speeds and no touchy touchy.

I only got my alignment done last week, which was 550km after the lift.

In my imagination there would be less rubbing in that area when the body of the truck is lifted. I might be completely wrong though, I did have 4 beers.

Hmm. If you don’t tell someone which size is which, would they will be able to tell the difference.

But of course I’ll do 275s anyday haha.

275/70/17 Toyo Open County AT III e rated on Black Rhino Chamber 17X8.5 0 offset, 4.75 backspace. Definitely rubbed right off the bat. Removed the front mud flaps....still rubbed especially backing and turning at the same time. Getting alignment done this week, will advise if this cleans up the rubbing or not. Trying to decide on either the Old Man EMU lift, 887 coils and HS AAL or the 5100's with same HS AAL. Anyone out there experience the same dilemma?

Some reason discount tire doesn’t sell these tires in 275/70 anymore. Where did you purchase them?

It was a package deal from Custom Offsets, an early Christmas present from the wifey. 250 miles on the tires so far, no complaints. 1 to 2 mpg loss from weight. Excellent traction.

I have a dclb trd offroad with a 1.5 in lift up front, but stock uca's. I'm currently running 255/85r16 on the stock trdor wheels and don't rub. If I were to get a set of methods with 0 offset and 275/70r17, do you think I would rub on the cab mount?

I'm no where near the cab mount, mine rubs the fender liner near the bottom. I have 0 offset Blacked Rhinos.

you find the ridge grapplers at a shop local to you? I’ve looked everywhere online for this size and no one has them in stock.

    Howdy all,

Throwing my hat in the ring, this thread helped me tremendously in my decision for upgrades. Thanks everyone!

Extremely happy with how it turned out, I had a general idea from this thread but I was unsure if the 275/70s were gonna satisfy my taste - Was worried they'd look too small after the lift - They are not!
All the photos in this thread are awesome but I feel pictures don't do this tire size and the 2/1 or 2/1.5 lift justice. It definitely has an imposing look and feel in person.
The added height from the tires and lift are very noticeable while driving, we'll see how it performs once I can get it through some difficult trails.
I had the wheels/tires put on before the lift, had major rubbing on the mud flaps leaving Discount Tire. Removed the mud flaps and trimmed a few small pieces of plastic and rubbing was gone.

    275/70/17 KO2s
Pro Comp Series 05 17x8 Wheels
    Eibach Stage 1 lift - 2 inches front ( I didn't measure before/after so this is advertised lift )
Wheelers Progressive AAL - 1.5 inches rear

Quick photos from a service road in town, if anyone wants better angles or additional photos please let me know!
