Is there a simple way to tell if the truck is going into 6th gear? I could try and count the shifts I guess, but I figured it might jump from 3rd to 5th so that seems like a poor test. I bought my truck used with 33" tires, and I heard without a regear that it generally stays in 5th with that setup.

Could I run one of those odb connectors to my phone to get the readout?

The App “OBD Fusion” will display the gear.

Get a stick shift and look at the center console.

I put it in 6th before, but noticed it downshifts regardless. I guess if I walk through the gears that would work. Good idea

If your speedometer is showing 70mph and your tach is less than 2000 rpm you're in 6th(17-1800). If it's over 2000 rpm you're in 5th(around2200). I know he's not actually going 70 because of his 33" tires but that doesn't change what his speedometer reads.

Yeah, you should be able to learn what rpm you'd expect to be in in 6th for the speed you are targeting.

Didn't know the auto's were up to 6 gears now and wold have assumed there was a digital display indicator for it on the info center regaurdless.

I was going to tell OP if it's a 4 cyl it doesn't have a 6th gear on the manual, otherwise if the stick is all the way right and down you're in 6th.

My truck is in 6th gear all the time.It loves 6th. 35mph slight hill getting on the highway? great time for 6th gear. The only way its not is with the pedal all the way to the floor then its a race to get back to...6th gear. I suspect that after I put it in park and shut it off and walk in the house that it secretly shifts into 6th gear.

To piggy back off of this post, I drive 79 on the interstate and 6th puts me right around 2k. 5th is around 2.3k, and 5th unlocked is around 2.5k.

Not with 33's. My truck in 6th at that speed is like 1100 RPM. 5th is about 1600 RPM at same speed.

This is making me question if others really know what gear they are in. Luckily I found my obd II wifi adapter in an old electronics box. A few weeks ago I could only find the bluetooth one, which my iphone didn't care for. So I can check with the app mentioned earlier.

Stock tire size is about 1600 RPM. It's the 33's that are the difference.

Adding some details for others. It goes into 6th gear just fine if I am driving at 65 or even 70 mph. Even with larger tires. So that YouTube link I put earlier seems way off.

I had to purchase the app and the add on pack. Then it took some digging through the menu to find the correct indicator for the transmission gear.

6th gear is for down hill if you are on 33's with stock gearing. If you are going down hill and under 80mph you are in 6th gear.
