    The cost of gas has never been a concern until now; If it hits $4 per gallon for regular, then it will no longer be economically feasible to DoorDash in my truck...

    :annoyed:

    As for the miles I put on my truck doing this, that's how I get a huge break on my income tax, so putting miles on a truck that in perfect mechanical condition and totally paid off does not bother me in the slightest; However, I say again, that if gas prices go past $3.90 or so for regular I will have to re-examine whether or not using an old pickup truck for DoorDash is worth it.

    Yeah, but in the interest of reducing the "pain in the ass" factor on my part, I am going to do everything in my power to make sure I don't get flagged as a person of interest if something happens to the merchandise after it's out of my possession; Just like if a check from my employer bounces (which is NOT my fault), I want to make sure the police or the feds don't show up at my door!

    That's about reducing methane emissions though; Also, I don't think what comes out of the typical human butthole is anywhere near as toxic (if it's toxic at all) as what comes out of a typical landfill. Aren't those two different types of methane?

    And after reading the article further, I'm discovering that they are actually harness the power of methane; They've been converting gasoline-powered vehicles to run on propane for years with decidedly minimal effort. Do you know if any modifications are required to convert a gas engine to methane?

    @Red Alert

    I read an article about a company that builds electric motors encased in replicas of real V8s for use in hot rods and muscle cars, etc; They have a bracket for mounting an A/C compressor and supposedly bolt right up to existing transmissions. However, they cost $15K which is literally what my truck cost new, and probably about what Toyota paid to put a new frame under it; If someone were to make a direct drop-in replacement electric motor for my truck and the price came down enough, I'd put one of those in if and when the original motor gave out! Also, I'd want it to have a minimum range of 400 miles, and I'm hoping that in a few years charging time for all electric vehicles will be significantly reduced; One of my coworkers has a Tesla (it's a sedan but I forget which model) and she loves it!

    I almost bought a well-maintained but high-mileage 2010 Prius for a little under $6K last March, for the sole purpose of having something with better gas mileage to do DoorDash with, but after talking it over with my dad, he said I'd have to have the car for a while before I saved enough on gas to cover what I'd paid for the car; Our very own @ColoradoTJ also gave me advice on making sure the batteries were in good shape before buying an older used hybrid, as they generally cost $3K to $4K to replace!

    I wouldn't hazard a guess as to the timescale of improvements & the associated costs in EV & battery technology.

    As far as buying that used Prius you got good advice & were wise to follow it.

    It did give me a newfound respect for Priuses though; I would buy a new or certified preowned one if I was in dire need of a fuel efficient vehicle!

    If things go according to plan at NAVMAR, I won't need a second job; Part of the reason I do DoorDash is to get the hell out of the house! Also, I've made almost $8,000 this year just from DoorDash!

    @Taco critter

    First incident of the day occurred while I parallel parking on Main Street in Doylestown Borough; I was picking a pizza at Nat's for DoorDash, though to be fair this was just typical Doylestown on a rainy Saturday night and had nothing to do with the fact that I was doing DoorDash...

    So, there was absolutely nobody behind me and I parallel parked, only to realize that so had gone in at kind of an odd angle and was too far from the curb. I went to reposition the truck and it was this point that I noticed a line of three or four cars had formed behind me...

    :annoyed:

    They seemed to be patient, so I chose not to abort the parking attempt; Well, most of them were being patient...

    I had the wheels turned to the left and I pulled forward a tiny bit; This was when some jackass in a Hyundai decided he didn't want to wait less than a minute and crossed the double yellow line into the opposing lane to pass me. If I'd pulled forward a just couple more inches, the left corner of my front bumper would smashed the entire passenger side of his car; After hearing the story, my dad says that the guy in the Hyundai would have been at fault. I was so angry that I laid on the horn and turned on both the foglights and the high-beams once his back window was in range...

    :devil:

    Everyone else just waited patiently; I picked up the pizza without incident and delivered it, also without incident...
