    Hello all,

I rolled the dice on a Joying 11.6 inch Android Head Unit for my 2019 Tacoma with JBL factory sound. I knew going in that the JBL issue could likely be a problem but between Joying stating that it would work with their Toyota harness, and my greed for that sweet 1080p display, I rolled the dice.

I got the single DIN version knowing that the double is mostly an empty box, and wanting a lot of extra space in there for harness and some elaborate camera stuff I have planned. This all worked out nicely using the Scosche kit everyone points to in that 60-page Joying thread.

The good part is the unit installs really nicely in the truck:

And the system looks gorgeous. Gaia and OnX are phenomenal. Spotify runs. Also Canbus works:

Now here's the problem: I have no audio at all. Zero. Except a loud-ish pop when I turn off the truck like the speakers are getting a spike. I don't think I missed any connections; I've checked several times. That said there were a couple of single pole connectors that the provided harness doesn't seem to accommodate. One looks like it it could be an XM radio antenna (don't need/want it), and I have no idea about the other, which is similar in size and shape.

Now I've previously tried to read that very long Joying thread, and while there's tons of good info, I haven't seen a definitive answer on dealing with the JBL issue.

Anybody know how to handle this? If I can throw money at it and just get a new amp that will play nicely, that would be an acceptable outcome I guess, so open to high-confidence suggestions on options that way too. Thanks for any help.

Here it is running Torque and pulling info from a ~$15 bluetooth OBDII adapter.

Side note on the bluetooth on these units, its locked for everything except phone and the cheap obd plugs. Ive talked to joying about getting a unlock for it, but they said no :(

Also as for fixing the no sound issue. There are a few settings in there that may fix it. I know there is a amp turn on, there may be some other things for the JBL system too. My headunit is pretty old now, so there are some new features and canbus stuff that they have come out with since i got mine.

That looks awesome. I hadn't heard of this unit before. Looks like its running android so probably not particularly compatible with my iPhone? I'll look into it more

Allright, thanks to Sloth, I now have audio (partially.) After cutting those two wires I do get sound out of the front speakers, but nothing out of the back. I guess this is due to the JBL wanting a separate signal controlling balance/distribution (?).

I'm going to be running the apps I care about directly in Android on the device, so I haven't bothered to look at tethering capabilities in any detail. I think their webpage has relevant info, plus there's 5nahalf's epic thread.

    Hi @jdb73.
Question, is the rear camera functionality/wiring is the part of the unit or requires an extra harness? Thanks.

As purchased with the Toyota harness it works fine. I actually have a four camera switch and backup override from anytime backup camera installed as well and that's also perfectly functional.

Out of curiosity, where did you source this from? Direct from Joying or others?

Just spitballing. If you go to crutchfield and select your tacoma, it does ask if you have JBL, and then when you look at headunits there are links for "see installation gear you'll need"

Two of the items I'm seeing are -

    https://www.crutchfield.com/p_794ADSMRR/iDatalink-Maestro-RR-Interface-Module.html
    https://www.crutchfield.com/p_794HR...ADS-MRR-or-ADS-MRR2-module-also-required.html

both say retain steering wheel controls and "factory amp"

Does the joying kit come with anything like this or did you buy anything like the maestro module separately? Again - I more or less have no idea what I'm talking about.. lol, just what little research I've done into upgrading a JBL head unit.

It came with a canbus decoder so all that works (doors, this, steering wheel keypad etc). What's lacking I think is a way to take the four individual speak levels and regenerate the digital (I assume) signal that the amp wants to tell it how to drive the output speakers. Seems like in the absence of that it just drives the fronts (?). Anyway I can't tell if the maestro module does something like that. At $200 plus harness, it would have to be a perfect solution. Maybe I'll call them tomorrow.
