I vote for the snorkel, but dont cut the hole or bolt it on, just use 3m automotive tape to hold it there. You get all the looks of a snorkel, but can remove it when you want without having to get a new fender.

*yes I know there is no point to doing that other than getting instagram point, but really how often are you using those brand new traction boards, or that brand new fisker ax that still has tags on it? (not directed at OP)

I have considered one numerous times. Read some reviews on here. Sounds like all they are good for is getting excessive dust in your filter, getting clogged with snow and providing a false sense of water fording capability. Maybe if I was traveling in a caravan across the Sahara, but otherwise they seem to be pretty over rated. Also, not a Taco, but my brother has one on his JK and now it runs 50* hotter all the time.

Guilty as charges. I have two traction boards that I have never used! I don’t even load them up anymore.

Dont worry, I have a 50 cal ammo can with straps, shackles, everything... and its all still in its original wrapping. I gave the can to my dad for christmas 6 years ago, he gave it back to me this year when he sold his jeep.

So many uneducated/google experts reply on here. "I knew a guy that had a snorkel....."
    "Snorkels look gay!"

"Snorkles cut a hole in your fender....." No shit?

I put a snorkel on my 2006 Xterra, there was no more dust or crap in my air box than without it . And, thats what a filter us for. When it rained, water didn't go into the tube and into my airbox/engine. I looked because i heard the same dumbass comments.

Occasionally when leading groups on offroad trips, water that normally was 2 feet deep, a few times was much deeper. A snorkel is insurance, thats it. It wont do anything for mpg or any other bs you'll read.

Im sure half the people bashing a snorkel are the very same dudes with 1500 bucks in offroad lights that they occasionally turn on when going up their driveway at night, because they never use them otherwise.

So, yeah, it can be 1000000 percent useless for you if you'll never offroad. And of course, check the depth of water when you can. Rather have and not need than need and not have.

Keeping your alternator out of mud and water is just as important.

This forum and the shit people say cracks me up. If you want a snorkel, get one.

You have a snorkel AND a camper? You camp at walmart and drive through deep potholes or something?!?

Some cars on the road with wings actually use them, granted most of those are easily identified by the SCCA sticker and magnet/tape numbers.

My truck has a snorkel if for no other reason than my tires got so big they removed my splash guards for me and I was getting sick of bi-weekly air filter changes after that. (Intake is in the fender cavity protected by the splash gaurd after all.)

Now I change it once a year ish even though it looks fine but I feel like it should be done at least annually.)

Also I have been know to:

    Screenshot_20211219-110752~2.jpg

    from time to time.

(Notice the front right headlight underwater, that could have been an engine ender without the snorkel gear.)

I say get a snorkel if you want a snorkel the look cool just be prepared for the surprisingly common "Why did you do your exhaust like that?" Questions and the almost worryingly frequent response to "That's actually the clean dry air engine intake." of: "Air? But cars run on gas!" Responses.

(I fear for their criminally neglected air filters.)

Snorkels 10X your dust into your filter, clogging the filter unnecessarily and reducing your performance until you shake it out. Proven time and time again in convoys I’ve been in with “the snorkelled” and the “anti-snorkellers”. It’s a huge liability for dusting your cylinders, and will also catch on tree branches. Stupidest mod ever. 99.7642% fashion.

I mean my personal experience is the exact opposite. snorkel has helped in a major way on silt covered roads.

That being said... I'm always out alone, never in a convory.

That's cause they're running the wrong top.

Flipping the inlet backwards reduces dust intake, (and I see few bother to do that much) but really you need a cyclone top if you're running convoy, but if you're soloing it or running low speed not dusty they keep the filter far far cleaner in my experience.

    Cyclonic pre-cleaner:

I any case get the gear for your use case or preference.
