Does the spare tire in a 2009 have a TPMS sensor?

Last week, my tire pressure warning indicator started blinking for 60 seconds on power-up, then went solid. A scanner showed that the two rear TPMS sensors were bad. They were replaced.

Now, the light turns on solid when I start the truck.

All tires including the spare are at spec. pressure.

Does the spare have a TPMS sensor and could it be causing this behavior?

The two front sensors were replaced a couple years ago and scanned good.

    Thanks for any replies.

They may need to be reprogrammed if they were recently replaced.
To my knowledge no spares have tpms sensors.
Edit: apparantly 08 and before have spare sensors?

No, 2009s don't have a TPMS sensor in the spare. IIRC some earlier years of 2nd gens did but they stopped putting one in there in ~2008 IIRC?? It sounds like you have a programming issue. Whowever installed them should have programmed them and verified all were working properly.

I'm pretty sure '08 was the last year they put sensors in the spare. My '07 has one.

    Thanks for the replies.

How would I verify, with certainty, the existence or absence of a sensor in the spare?

When I start the truck, I get one blink of the tire pressure warning light, then it stays solid.

I tried the teach function several times, it did not clear the light.

Either a scanning tool, or physically remove the tire from the rim is all I can think of. I'd be suspect of your spare having one..though I suppose it could be possible unless you know it's always been the spare rim.

Easy. If you have a 2009 you don't have a sensor in the spare.

My thoughts, though if it's possible the spare was swapped for a regular

Even if... someone would then have to go out of their way to program and enroll a 5th sensor in the system... which may not even be possible on 2009+. And if I read this right it was all working correctly until recently.

Very true. Though I suppose it's not totally off the range if he bought it used, prior someone swapped spare rim for one of the regulars. It would still have 4 sensors but one would be the spare?

I ran into something like this with my wife's Rav4..

Exactly. They say ~10 years but mine actually went 12 1/2 years and were still working when I put in new ones (with new tires). But they were on their last legs for sure.

My motto..it's always something, that's for sure.

This. Mine were all original (unless they were replaced in the first 3 years of the truck's life, which I highly doubt) and the left front went early this year. So right now I have 3 that are a tad more than 12. Similarly, my wife's 2005 Rav4 was 15 when we sold it and had all but one (maybe) original..I don't recall if we even had to change one over the time we had it, and it was 3 years old at our acquisition of it.

Update: With the help of the local 'Yota dealer parts counter guy, I verified that I do not have a pressure sending unit in my spare.
