It’s not stronger than plywood. Do the research. ‘This Old House’ has an experiment on YouTube comparing the two. Also comparing same thickness of Ply to OSB, the holding strength for a nail and screw isn’t half on OSB as ply. If saturated with water, OSB swells about 30-40% and never shrinks back. Plywood will also swell when wet but returns to within 4-5% of original thickness.
Most, if not all hardwood floors warranties are void if installed atop OSB.
If your house has OSB roof sheathing and you want a metal roof, most installers won’t install on OSB.

I have to wonder why for things such as engineered joists then the manufacturers are using OSB if they are weaker than plywood. I would not be using it on a subfloor, but I did finish my interior walls in my shop with OSB, been extremely happy with strength and durability.

OSB's only benefit over plywood is it has a higher sheer force. That's why they use it in manufactured joists.

If you took a length of plywood and a length of OSB, and applied force at one end, the OSB is stronger.

from a design perspective yes. I think it has other benefits such as less cost over plywood and the fact it can be made in larger sheets. But that's a topic outside the structural pros/cons. I am not sure about the nail/screw holding ability, but can't imagine it would make that much difference. If half the holding ability, add twice the nails . I don't build houses for a living or pretend to on TV, so we'll let the pros hash it out, just providing my insight on brief research I've done on it. Not saying I'd build a new house and use for sub floor, but works pretty good for inside walls in a garage.

OSB is one of our biggest concerns during fires, that and truss roof/floor. Not only is it thin and easier to ignite and burn but the chemical make up of it… Helllooooo Toxins

When I was doing construction was when they introduced the requirement for 1/2" drywall equivalent fire protection on the underside of engineered I-trusses, precisely because of rapid burnthrough.

I'm sure you've read the equivalent of that before.

I’ve been framing houses since the late 80’s. We liked OSB at the time but over time seeing the wear and tear on houses from our weather/environment and quality taking a back seat to quantity, I no longer use OSB.

good to know. My house walls and roof is sheathed with plywood but the I-joists in the basement are engineered OSB. i believe the main beam running in the basement is some sort of laminate beam. I’d be hesitant to use OSB on outside walls exposed to weather.

I saw this parked on a residential street in Philly while doing DoorDash earlier today; It's not everyday you see a car with a 2-stroke engine that was built in a communist country that no longer exists!

The tires needed some air, but otherwise it seemed to be in pretty good shape; I'm guessing the owner simply parked it for the winter (though so far we're not having much of a winter in the Philadelphia area)...

It even as a stereo with a CD player! I'm pretty sure that the Trabant didn't even come with a heater back in the day, and I know for a fact even the newer ones didn't have even a basic AM radio!
