I’ve done a few here and there.
Problem is a boat motor usually comes with a trailer. Big boat, big trailer…..
I wanna tinker when I want to.
    I like small engine work.
I can replace a Tecumseh by hand. I can’t replace a SBC like that… lol

Tonight my Betty and I are getting together with some old friends of mine from my small engine and mechanic days. When I started working in a shop as a kid at 18 I worked in a bike shop that also sold and serviced mini bikes, go carts, and every imaginable moped ever made back in the day. We where also a Vespa and Lambretta scooter dealer. I worked with a kid that started there when I was 19, he was 15, we are still friends today. His twin brother is still running a bike shop today. He is working in the lawnmower shop I worked at 20+ years ago. We are all still friends and we get together every year for Christmas, we bring a dish or 2 to share, and then play some kind of a game after dinner while stuffing ourselves with desserts, lol. I always look forward to this annual holiday gathering of friends and our wives.

    Morning all.
I saw an interesting article in today's paper.
I personally would have never thought to think of traveling like this man has.
Traveled from Oregon to New York via canoe!
I hope you can see it.20211219_072150.jpg

    Morning all:
Here we go again, it's almost 2022 and I NEED A CALENDAR, no one seems to give them out anymore like they once did.

Interesting article Harry, first time I heard of that, paddling 7,500 miles sounds like a lot of work though.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Gals! I'm too old for how hard my friends work! My feet and hips are still sore. Since I'm so helpful, I'm a gonna bring a chair or stool next time. I take lots of "sit down a minute" breaks working at home, so that must be the difference. Here are 4 guys (honest - 4th guy doesn't like his pic taken anyway) seriously contemplating the required work and adjustments required for an old Taco. At our age, it's important to have some younger friends that like to do this stuff!

    20211218_122337.jpg

Santa provided breakfast tacos, beverages, and even some gifties for the elves - we didn't have a group Secret Santa, so I cleaned up and gave stuff away! Including SIX CALENDARS Carl! I guess they send them all to me. It was 70* when we started at 07:00, then it poured for a couple hours (we were indoors), we lost power for a while, then the cold and wind came. We ended up blowing off the brewery, and just drinking my Christmas Ale, and Hawaiin Wave. (Christmas in Hawaii - get it?) It quit raining long enough to get the truck pics....

We did get this done, so my thanks to everyone there, and I am thrilled. I will send a message about the rears off today, and see what happens there. (I somehow got EYELET tops on the rears, not stems - my bad probably) I'll go out and get a measurement picture after 80 miles to see the difference. Seems very close to where it was, which would be perfect.

If you were closer, I'd knock that out for you. That's more of my speed in working on stuff.
Thanks for the bridge pics, now I don't have to imagine it anymore!

I got the call from Home Depot saying they have my metal trim for the building, so I went out to get the trailer to haul the 14+ long pieces home. The back forty was loaded with tumble weeds from a windstorm a few days ago, so spent a couple of hours throwing them over the fence to be burned on my neighbor's place. They are absent owners, haven't seen them more than twice in twelve years and a lot of the weeds probably came from their place. Pulled the trailer out and noticed a low tire. The valve stem broken. Went around to air up the other side and flexed the valve stem slightly to be sure it was good... and it broke too. LOL... So now I have two tires in the back of the green Taco to go get valve stems in the morning. The tires are ancient but have great tread so I'm wondering if tubes might be a good idea. So burning weeds tomorrow morning early while the tires are made to hold air. Anybody want to come over and toast marshmallows?

If those are trailer tires get rid of them. Trailer tires are different from car tires and the rubber deteriorates after a couple years. Even if they look great get rid of them if they are 5 or more years old. Trailer tires should be replaced after 5 (or sometimes fewer ) years no mater what the tread looks like. If they are car tires and are really old you should replace them too.

Yes it is always nice to have friends that like to do that sort of work. Tell you friend that I liked his garage and the lean-to with the picnic table is to die for.

True story: When I worked for a mom-and-pop telephone company we replaced a manual dial PBX with an electronic PBX located in a Delaware hospital. One of the switchboard operators had been there so long, the last section on her index finger was bent from dialing the dial on the switchboard.

:pccoffee::pccoffee::pccoffee::pccoffee: and a  to get the morning started.

Happy Monday! Son's F150 is in the auto repair shop getting it ready for a trip to Michigan next Monday. Just putzing around today doing a few odds and ends then going to an awards ceremony tonight. My son's Christmas house decorating won a city award.

I hope to finish putting a handle on a roofing hatchet for a friend today. This is the type of job I wish I had a quality real shop belt sander.

Yesterday was a 2 1/2 pound pork butt on the Weber Kettle.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Fellow Porchites! Kind of grey, but supposed to slowly get nicer. Rain is gone, and it will be 80* by Christmas. Got some erranding to do, and that's it except putz. Appointments Tuesday and Wednesday. The Christmas slow down!

Hey Tom, he'll be selling the house soon! It's on 5 Ac outside SA. That's the 3 bay shop. There is a separate 2 car garage. He'll miss the shop, but they are going to move into something smaller for a couple years, while he builds a new home and buildings down at his farm near Beeville.

And my coffee emptied itself. See ya' later.

I’ll go you one better. My sister was a switchboard operator in the Oakland Temescal Ma Bell substation years ago. She and couple dozen more girls were “number please” operators. Her supervisor wore roller skates to cruise up and down the line of stations to listen in. That was her first job out of high school in 1948.
