2022 extended warranty packages.

I've never been through a Toyota sales Pitch in the F-N-i office . Do they push the extended warranties? I'm reluctant to purchase a extended warranty for a vehicle that has such a great reliability rating.

For those of you who have, can you share how much the packages are/were? I know when I bought my Dodge RAM, the warranty package was quoted to me of $3500 for 7/70k additional. I couldn't afford it at the time, so i was able to talk them down to $2k (same warranty), so it appears they is some play with the extended warranty cost.

 

It depends on the individual dealer. Mine was aggro as all get out and offered ridiculous wheel protection, dubious under coating, and terrible oil change packages. They are the worst. Say no to everything - the dealer is not out for your best interest either financially or technically.

Just say no on everything they offer beyond what the factory warranty already provides.

Upselling nonsense packages is one of the dealers biggest money makers.

Just say no.

 

I got one, but I purchased mine used and I was more concerned about if something electronic had issues that I couldn't fix. I'd probably say "no" if I were to do it again.

 

Whether they push it on you will be dealer-dependent, but more likely than not. They're a pain to cancel so if you're reluctant I'd just follow your instincts and decline it since you'll probably end up having regret later on.

Personally I have one (I forget cost but probably in the 2k range for a 100k wrap), less so for the mechanical bits and more for the safety suite stuff; lots of sensors and modules and cost involved in even just re-calibrating it, much less potential failure. That's probably the biggest question mark for long-term durability since it's all fairly new, and odds are it'll all work perfectly fine but I find some value in the peace of mind. Then again, the warranty I have has no conditions for cancelling it, so if I decide it's no longer needed / sell my truck then I get the prorated amount back; make sure if you do get one that you understand the cancellation terms.

 

I usually ask one of these questions:
"Will I get a better truck with the extended warranty?"
or
"Is the truck unreliable to require the extended warranty?"

Then after they answer I say, "No, Thank you."

 

They offered to drop my interest from 3.6% to 2.4% if I would go with extended warranty, also bumped it from 100k to 150k miles. In the end the difference was + $1200.

 

sounds good but for how many years.

 

you can buy it anytime within the first 3 years. why not wait and decide @ 2years 10months in.

 

Personally I wouldn't bother. I've rarely seen it benefit any normally driven Toyota.

I usually recommend it if you push the vehicle beyond its normal use. Like towing, hauling, people moving etc.

It's a waste of money except for the built in maintenance package.

Word on the street is that Wolverine Toyota makes good deals on the extended warranty. I found this from a previous post, it is old enough that the prices are probably NOT still current. I plan on giving them a call when I get a VIN number so that I have a competitive number in my back pocket if my dealer goes for the hard sell. You DO NOT have to buy the Toyota Extended Warranty from the same dealer you purchased the truck from....as I understand it.

depending on how old the past is it might not still be available, Toyota shut down dealers selling the extended warranty packages on the internet years ago.
i got in at the very end on my 2016 the 8YR/75K for about the price in your post

 

I just bought one from her in mid-November. Price was same as listed above for miles/years.

Just remember, your drivetrain already has a factory warranty of 5 years/60K (beyond the full warranty of 3 years/36K). So if you’re buying say, an 8 year extended warranty, you’re really only getting 3 more years on the most important parts (and even less than that if you drive more than 12K/year like most people). The odds are very high that if a major problem doesn’t appear in the first 5 years, it probably isn’t going to be an issue until well after 10 years - especially with a Toyota.

 

I ended up buying 10yr/100000 for $2200. I was reluctant but it’s bumper to bumper and I financed it for 0% for 5 years… I had no problem buying an extended warranty for my kitchen appliances (which already paid for itself) so I figured why not have one on my vehicle. The computers/chips in these cars nowadays are far from bulletproof.

 

I usually get them. Now I wait till the OEM warranty gets ready to expire then I get 3 extra years (the first 3 years will not overlap).

 

There is a ton of stuff that is excluded from those so called bumper to bumper extended warranties. Read the pamphlet the finance guy tries to avoid showing you. After they pressure you, you then say "how long do I have to decide about this?" (You have until your 3/36 is up), then say "I'll think about it" and never give it another thought. You're welcome.
