    @Speedytech7
    @Wulf

    I'm at the airport, and I seem to be overthinking this hitch receiver weld project.

    Some guys literally weld on a hitch to the outer most crossbar/crossmember that's either attached to their frame or is part of their frame, and that's it.

    The black is the aftermarket bumper, and I plan to weld a sort of crossmember between, and a sort of brace towards the hitch itself.

    Bad idea? Good idea?

    Suggestions?

    It's less Tacoma and more mod
    Is that back bar of the bumper that the receiver protrudes through rectangular tube or just a thin piece of sheet metal. You can get rid of the red Cross bar that spans the width if it's rectangular tube but I would keep it if it's just sheet metal

    X2 if its a square tube between the frame plates it will be strong enough especially with some basic gusssets and not need the additional supports.

    That said no shame in overbuilding especially for peace of mind, though you can make the frame the weak point

    Are you welding the hitch to the frame?

    I did quarter inch plate on either side that bolted to the frame, I think it’s a strong arrangement and uses the original hitch holes.

    Sorry for not clarifying, and not proving more pics (I texted them to Zane, internet sucks at the airport).

    I plan to use the bumper to weld on, and my idea was a square tube as a crossmember between the "plates" that bolt onto the frame rails.

    Yah with plate on the frame rails a 2x2x3/16 or 1/4 square tube between is beef and doesn't really warrant additional bracing. I'd add one 2x2 gusset to where the cross ties into each plate at the frame and to the receiver tube if you're adding a hitch

    ah ok. I think you can do away with the forward one. The vertical load on the hitch will be supported by the bumper, and any twisting up/down of the hitch and braking/pulling forces will be managed by those angled pieces. The forward one doesn’t have any loading unless you extended the hitch tube all the way to it.

    Found a pic of what I did

    Do away with what forward one?

    Confused.

    The red bar, between the black bars, in my head would be a square tube that spans between the frame rails.

    I would weld that square tube to the inside of the black bars, which is my aftermarket bumper.

    That small, red little rectangle at the center bottom is the hitch receiver.

    Gotcha, makes sense (forward as in towards the front of the vehicle.

    I love the way you braced your setup.
