I've got a '22 Off Road trim Tacoma that I am currently taking on a road trip home. All smooth sailing interstate driving, and I am currently averaging 13.9 mpg. At home, my commute to work is anywhere from 19 to 22 mpg. I was expecting at least 20 mpg on this trip. Is this something I should worried about? I'm driving through KS, so windy and long slow hills, and we have two people and two dogs. I'm also using cruise-control with the dynamic radar cruise control. The truck has about 2k miles on it at this point. I am a little worried something is wrong, but I'd love your all's thoughts. Thanks!

Thats how the truck is going to be, especially in the wind. Its up to you if you worry about it, or just enjoy it. Also, turn off the adaptive cruise control. It just gives you worse mpgs.

Theres a lot of talk here about MPG. Keep it under 70 MPH for good road Fuel economy. Constant Cruise also will likely yield much better results. Doubt it's anything to worry about.

For what it's worth. I have a 2021 TRD OR and it gets similar gas numbers around town for me. 13-14 is as good as I have seen. I only have 1000 miles on it and I have not yet driven it open highway but so far it just sucks at gas mileage. . . I still love it though.

Auto or stick? The manual has really low gears from the factory, so over 70 it starts to drop pretty fast.

that being said, they do have to break in. I got ~17 on my 500 mile road trip home from getting mine. Once I hit 7500 miles it improved quite a bit. If you stay off the interstate and under 65, they’ll get pretty insane numbers. Got over 28 on a 70 mile trip on flat roads at 60. Not typical, but if you play it right they can do it.

Expect an average of 19-20 with a manual and maybe 1-2mpg better for an auto.

Seems a little low. I get 11-13 with 33" MT,sliders, rack etc. And that's cranked in 4th gear the whole time at around 80

You should get about EPA testing numbers as long as your conditions are similar.

    Stock tires? Speed?

Is this a dashboard number or hand calculated?

Wind has a large impact, as does speeds.
I just took a 100 mile trip dead West yesterday, cruise at 78 mph I averaged right at 17.5 mpg going in to a 5-10ish mph wind (really wind was coming from about 2:00) and returned home same exact route with no wind, 78 mph averaging 20 mpg.

I’ve got a 22 Sport long box 4x4 and up here in Alberta I got 11.4l/100 (20.6mpg) on my first two tanks. Temps dropped to around -20 Celsius for some of my 3rd tank and I’m averaging 12l/100 (19.6mpg). This is probably 60-70% city/ 30-40% highway. I drive conservatively though, with my only mod that might affect mileage being the chin spoiler removal. Rims, tires and small lift are coming though.

Overall I’m pretty thrilled with my mileage so far. Expecting to see better numbers in the summer.

I live in Kansas and do a lot of driving on I-70. My stock 2018 OR DCLB would get 15-16 mpg going 80 mph. On state highways I could get 20-21 mpg going 70 mph.

I get 19-21 highway this time of year. 13-14 is towing a trailer in the summer with three kids in the car and the AC cranking.

That’s not what I would expect. Interesting. I loved taking my Tundra on road trips because it’s the only time I saw decent MPG’s

Nope never loaded down, l just chalk it up to higher speeds and not being very aerodynamic.

My 22 off road is getting 18mpg. I drive some on highway and the other half light to light city driving. It’s not bad. It’s a truck. If I was worried about it I would have bought a Prius
