Long uphills into the wind is the worst combo for MPGs. There’s nothing wrong with your truck. On the flip side, long downhills with the wind will get you the best MPGs.

It's stock, just driving in 2wd on the interstate. Seems like it's normal, though, so I'm not too worried about it I reckon. Still loving the truck for sure!

Can't complain there! I was averaging a little more with a V8 Ram 2500, so I thought a lighter truck might do a little better. Still didn't think it'd be "good".

That's basically exactly what I'm doing, east on I-70 from CO. After reading everyone's response I'm thinking it's just gonna vary pretty widely. Thanks for your feedback!

You will learn the truck and the truck will learn you. I'd say you will be reporting better MPG in 6 mos. Enjoy it and drive it!

My 30 minute drive to work was getting about 20-22 mpg, which includes a state highway and a little interstate driving. But 13 hours on the interstate at 80mph has shot that way down! I'm also a fairly conservative driver. Only thing to do is keep track on the rest of the trip.

When my truck was new, for the first 5-10k miles I was lucky to get 14 mpg pretty much stock. I get better mpg than that now lifted with 33's. Barely, but better.

    Give it time.

My best on the interstate was 22.2 driving 70 drafting Semis. Might be able to get 23-24 if I knock it down to 65.

Are you in an area that has the crappy winter blend gas? That corn squeezing crap lower MPG’s by quite a bit. I haven’t checked my taco but on my wife’s Prius C it goes from 50 mpg to 45 mpg on that crap!

Next door neighbor just purchased a new 2021 Dodge Ram 4WD Hemi, he’s getting 12-13 mpg, he was shocked, lol. I had to point out the 6” lift with 20’s.

    The Tacoma mpg don’t like 70 mph+.

Average vehicle gets 17% less mpg at 70 mph. A 10 mph head wind (light breeze) in addition to 70 nets 28% loss. While mpg may seem low at times due to driving conditions I would hazard to guess any full size truck would be lower still than Tacoma under those same driving conditions.
This time of the year is especially bad:
    Winter blend gas
    Longer warmups
    Windy weather
    Winter tires
    Rain/slush/snow on roads

My 2021 Sport 4wd never got the MPG the window sticker says no matter how careful I drove it when stock. I now have 265/70r17 and 1” off lift. The best I have ever got for a tank is about 16 MPG.
I still love the truck, but the MPG aren’t very impressive compared to my friends with V8 Silverado's and 33’s getting better.

The awful aerodynamics of the taco, combined with the gearing/power range is why you're getting horrible gas mileage on your windy road trip. You'd be better off dragging an anchor up hill than driving a Tacoma into a head wind.

    Nothing major yet.
I’ve been getting 21-24 highway with my 2022 and my 2019.

The sweet spot for gas mileage in the Tacoma I find is at about 55-60mph, so on secondary highways.
My gas mileage starts to drop again above 60mph (I have MT) and the faster you go the worse it gets.
Add in a headwind and the fact it's about as aerodynamic as a brick, I'm not surprised by your mileage.
Just enjoy the drive, it's a truck after all, so gas mileage is not it's strong point.

I was getting 13-14 mpg on my 2021 OR DCLB. Once I hit about 6500 miles on the truck, it started to increase and now I average between 16-18. Not sure if I changed the way I drive or if the engine "broke in" after a while but assuming you just got your 2022, it will likely increase in time. Also, just avoid harsh accelerations and your mpg will be decent... "for a truck."

Non-aerodynamic, boxy trucks never do well on the highway!

I'll assume people knew that before making such a purchase.
