I really want to commit but I still feel like shit today from this damn cold I picked up. I don't want it to be contingent on me going, but if you a few of you are committed I will try to verify one way or the other this afternoon/early eve.

Big Bear is gonna get hit with way more snow Mon - Wed next week, shame I won't be in town next weekend or I'd love to do a day after xmas run up there

I def wouldn't go up there via fire road with 2wd when there's snow. They're 2wd friendly when dry/no snow, but still pretty rutted out and a little rocky in areas that make it 4wd necessary when there's snow on the ground.

Esp with the storms we just had, ruts are probably even bigger

Not to mention its real easy to slide on those roads when they're snowy, I've seen 4wds slide into one another on Coxey Rd before when trying to pass each other (too much throttle/not airing down tires). With 2wd it will be near impossible to avoid that happening if the trail has a lot of traffic, I wouldn't risk it

I'm planning to go either way. Coxey road looks pretty tame. It should be ok with 1 truck.

I have a buddy riding along with my dog and gear. Idk how much room I'll have.

I would be nervous about ice in a 2wd but I'll roll with you if you want to see what it does up there.

Yeah Coxey is definitely doable solo. I've done it many times solo with just my wife and I to get up into Big Bear. And there's always other people around on it

I’m still down to go with whomever, I just haven’t driven in snow before so I don’t wanna go solo :anonymous:

I really need to see how I feel in the AM. If I feel like I have the last 2 days I don't think it will be a good idea.

I'm thinking I'll leave long beach at 7:30 to be at the start of Coxey by like 9:30 or 10:00. I'm flexible if you're able to go though.

I've been watching YouTube. Coxey looks pretty easy and I've never done it. I'm thinking I'll do that instead of burns canyon. Would be good to have another truck there.

My two year old is showing signs tonight of having picked up the cold that my wife and I got, so it's looking even less good for me tomorrow.

If by a miracle she's ok tomorrow morning and I don't feel as bad as I did today, then I'll aim to meet you guys there at the trail head at 10am.

I've got a lot of moving parts this weekend, what with christmas and all (plus I have family in town etc), but I'd like to get up and drive into the snow!

So I ended up doing a solo run to big bear. I went up coxey, had a burger in town, then took burns canyon and a couple other trails on the way down. The snow was only at high elevation close to big bear. I was off the mountain by 3:30 to avoid ice. I think a 2wd with good tires or chains could have kept up no problem.

I'm on vacation from Xmas to new years if anyone wants to get into something. I'd be down for a run through mojave road. 2 days of easy easy of road driving if we don't spend too much time F'ing around.

    I'll roll with you. Lmk.

I'm considering it on sunday morning, but I have a lot of moving parts this weekend, with Christmas, and family in town, so I can't commit to anything right now. If i end up being able to go, I'll post up the day before!
