Damn, why'd I have to read this. I was holding out for the Pioneer 7600 because I really want wireless carplay. Mainly for Google maps and Spotify. And well because I'm not a fan of Entune. If this unit works smooth for those two I may take the plunge too.

Yeah it's great for both Google Maps and Spotify.

Nice, thanks. You use them via Carplay or data from the headunit? I'm not really interested in setting up a hotspot from my phone or getting a cellular plan for it. I should probably start reading that other thread...

I just use my phone as a Hotspot so I can have the full android capabilities on the HU. I haven't really tried Carplay.

This is what I do also. I use youtube music, it auto downloads music related to the things I like everytime I park in wifi range. I also downloaded offline maps for google maps for my whole area. Its super nice when I dont feel like hooking up the hotspot.

Thanks guys. Need to check into this a little more. I know it may not be a big deal to some but I don't want to have to connect the hotspot every time I get in the car. Would rather it just connect auto via Carplay.

Yeah I get it. I'll probably get a data plan and SIM.

Then it's probably not the unit for you. It doesn't auto connect in the way you're describing. But man, it's less than 10 seconds though to get it to connect. Really not a big deal.

Mine more or less auto connects. I turn on my hotspot when I get in the car, and by the time I get out of range of my home router the headunit switches over to my hotspot. Then anytime I get in the truck (as long as I left the hotspot running on my phone) it auto connects. So if I go to walmart, when I get back into my truck it auto connects right away.

I think the lack of autoconnect more has to do with turning the hotspot off and the radio not being connected to anything prior.

Is it actually locked or a BT that does not support it? So far I have found all android HU are like this.

From what I have found over on the xda forums its all there and should work, but its fully locked out and no one has been able to hack it into working again. There are certain models that you can hack to work, but they are the older px5 models.

I mostly use CarPlay instead of connecting myself. Wireless CarPlay is nice on the android HUs

Ahhh interesting. I always thought it was an inferior BT. I was pretty bummed I couldn’t connect. Any idea why it’s locked out? Seems like an odd thing to lock out.

When I asked joying they just said its locked and they cant do anything about it. I have a feeling that the actual chip boards are made all by the same company, then joying makes the lcd and mounting system for it. So pretty much all of these android china units from all the companies are going to be the same.

Yah figured that’s it. Even most of the joying are similar if not the same as others. Def a deal bummer. Def have a few things I was hoping to have on the HU instead of the phone. I thought I had read they used an older BT who is is why it did not work but then mew ones came out and it supports what they told you. Sucks when even a cheap android tablet can do it all.

There is a chance it could work with a usb bluetooth module, Ive never tried, but might be a simple option.

When I got mine I really wanted to be able to connect to my digital sound processor via bluetooth so I could program and adjust the dsp right from the headunit.

Ah yah I had plans for that in the future, solar controller. Switch pro, battery monitor, fridge and some other crap.

the BT module is an interesting idea. I. That sense it depends if it will conflict or even pick it up and dl drivers or work as is.

If your looking to control some things from the headunit you should check out the alpines headunits, they sell a "relay pack" that allows you to control lights, and relays and other stuff right from the headunit. Im not sure on all the alpine headunits that can use the kac-001, but I think the halo 9 can if you dont mind a floating screen.

Running audio through BT seems counter productive. BT is bandwidth limited compared to the wifi connection of carplay.
