Would ride quality suffer, and is off road quality better or worse?

They are more durable off road, and that does negativity effect the on road ride quality.

Those are great tires if you’re not off-roading. Have two sets, one on my brothers 3rd gen 4Runner and one on moms 2nd gen sequoia. Both have 50k ish miles on them and are still quiet and comfortable. Great performance in snow and rain. Dry weather is awesome too. Just all around good tires. Expensive though and not aggressive at all. They’re a highway tire.

    Need more info.

Generally, an E load range is going to be heavier and stiffer than a standard or C load. That translates to harsher ride and worse fuel economy, but increased rigidity offroad. Some will argue that an E load is not too stiff and that we drive trucks, so it's okay for it to feel like a truck. Others will say that it is uncomfortable and unnecessary.

I am in the camp that 99.99% of what I do does not require anything more than standard load, but I think the lowest I've aired down to is about 18 psi and I've been fortunate to not puncture a sidewall. YMMV.

The Michelins are a great tire will will easily handle forest service roads in all weather and are fantastic if the majority of your driving is on pavement.

That is good to hear because I found a guy who was willing to sell me his used set for C$250, with 9/16ths remaining. They are 265/70R17 but I'm eager to try them out in the spring after my winter wheels (Blizzak VM2) come off.

You're probably not doing anything wrong. You probably just drive differently than others and drive on roads that gain in elevation more so. There's a lot of factors when it comes to your vehicles MPGs and you really can't just compare it to any others unless they drive the exact same routes as you and apply the exact same acceleration during. Also, as you've stated, you're going off the trucks computer still, which is set for a smaller diameter tire, it will not ever be accurate till you go back to stock. You HAVE to calculate it yourself.

I just put on 255/80/R17 on 4Runner Pro wheels(4mm offset.) The spare is resting against the exhaust heat shield and two other brackets? Will have any issue with the heat shield getting to hot and melting a spot on the tire or rubbing on the brackets?

I went with the Gunmetal too, thought they would look better than the black. Great minds think alike.

Its getting close for me to get some new shoes on my 19' SR5 (stock suspension).
I think the stocks are 245 75 R16... Looking for something a little beefier... I dont think I can go taller (85) without rubbing...
the Open Country's got my eye... hopeuflly post pics when I decide on something. I think I can get through this winter and upgrade Spring/Summer.

I had no issues when I had a 255 down there before I chopped the exhaust to fit a 35. You should be fine.

For those that are wondering about the 235's, on 2nd & 3rd gen they look very skinny, but not all tires are the same so some not as skinny looking as others. If you dig through the forum you will see a lot of requests for front shots of the 235's, then take note that very few post direct front shots as even the owners don't like the look..... i ran some on my 2009 and didn't love it much. i have run cooper, toyo and fallen 255's though! more than one set of the toyo's actually. they're almost an inch taller than some 255's.. lots to consider. ok i'm outta here!!

How are you liking the tires? I'm thinking these will be replacing my Toyo 255/80s when they wear out.

How are your Toyos holding up? I have the same tire and size... Still fresh

My Toyos are great. The only reason I'm looking at the MTs is to get a taller 255 tire.
