Everything i see on social media, all vehicle makes, is crap. 90 percent of offroad clips i see are some asshole tearing up anything they can.

Dont be that person folks. We will all lose use of places that allow off highway driving.

I don't watch stuff like that on the interwebs as it will either up their monetization or clog my already shitty feed. But beyond the truck / SUV issue, SxSs are doing it all much worse from what I have seen. Way too much suspension and traction in too narrow of a vehicle for any mouthbreather with a credit card to access.

No they don't, people barely air down and just floor it up evreything because they either can't drive or think it's cool or both.

Inb4 the trails are wet and you have to do that ...

    Several suggestions come to mind.

But they would all be counter to the code of conduct. :D

So I'll just go with a positive suggestion.

How about the 'influencer - content creator - Tuber crowd make a new year resolution to find or create positive news?

Tree plantings. Home repair for those in need. Car repair for those in need. And all of you could pile on tons of ideas I'm sure.

All the TV - Tube - web shows that are in the Dumb and Dumber - Hey watch this - epic fails categories have twisted the value of communication. Use something like Pay it Forward (Mike Rowe) as your model.

Do you mean social media is cancer to society? Shocker. Let the worst advertise their bad behavior and others encourage it.

I personally stop and pick up cans and trash as I drive on trails, that's the best I can do to help keep them open. It seriously slows down the trips sometimes sadly. My faith in humanity is rarely restored.

Amen. Ive gone on rants about those f*ing things before so Ill refrain from doing it again here. But I agree, as a general rule 99% of the people who own those things are a**holes when it comes to off-road manners.

On the treadlightly topic I think a lot of the 'bad apples' we hear about or see tend to be locals with nothing better to do. We see that a lot here in the New England area unfortunately. I can think of two high profile incidents this year alone. One involving arson at an already closed spot, and the closing of a second popular spot.

Yeah. It tends to be opposite world courtesy from what I have seen and is what I always worry about seeing hurling at me from blind corners / hills.

Like these assholes (video embed below)? Aspirational marketing. "Honey, look at all the cool things we could do on a weekend! Look at this perfectly clean Range Rover tearing up sand and gravel." I'd have more respect for Land Rover if they showed some miserable dude in the desert trying to reseat a bead in the dunes or a Rover navigating some obstacles slowly with a spotter but I'm not their target market apparently. This is why the recovery business is booming; folks get this idea from the commercials that a heavy, aired up vehicle with open diffs can do anything off road.

Hell, to tow in my Tacoma (a LIGHT pickup marketed to tow light loads) I have to install a brake controller and possibly an AUX cooler if I want to tow 3500 - 4k trailers up long grades in warm weather. How much more for the off-road segment. I don't blame the manufacturers and marketers, they are in business to make money but I agree with your sentiment: tread lightly. I think a company that called out the bullshit marketing and came out with a message of "Respect the land: tread lightly" and "Pack it in, pack it out: leave it better than you found it" would be very well received. I would have a lot of respect for a company that aligned their marketing with a message of responsibility while having fun.

At the risk of sounding old and curmudgeonly, teels like part of a larger trend to me. Across the board there’s this idea that we have to make everything easy, especially on the internet. Topics that used to fill books are boiled down to top 10 lists and blog posts, and people get the idea that all they have to do is acquire gear and go nuts. Lost in all of that is the background knowledge that comes with getting into a hobby, and within that is the knowing what the responsibilities are.

Social media feeds that fire for sure, but it’s not the only issue.

It really is sad how people abuse public lands. It drives me nuts to find trash at campsites, and what's up with beer cans in the fire pit?!

And this is the reason why companies are gating off logging areas. People go in and trash the place, set fires and damage equipment.

One of my biggest concerns is irresponsible off roaders plowing through sensitive fish bearing streams and estuary's.
