I think you're good. My understanding is they redesigned the gasket and made it thicker.

Man, I'd reconsider. What's a bigger pain? Taking the cap on and off, or waiting a month while the dealer sources new interior?

I was wondering the same. If they’ve known about it for years, it be pretty dumb if this was still a problem. I also wonder if they’d be able to get it done with a shell mounted.

If I remember correctly it only applies from 2016 - 2019 so you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

They told me I need to remove mine. I have a GFC, but just said camper shell. The also said recall is good for a few years.

yup really funny how the seal is designed too, youd think they would use something half good for a part that sits in the area most exposed to sun/heat and weather.

why doesn't everyone just mask and reseal the light with silicone sealant or something so it becomes super resistant to leaking and seal degradation over time with the sun beating on it. I pan to do my 21' eventually, I always get paranoid in the car wash when the pressure washers spray right on it.

they should be able to just slide the shell back. I’m not gunna take mine in...if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Not every Tacoma is having the issue.

    Silicone is a good idea.

    Stock for now....
Any one try just adding extra silicone to the seals as a quick diy fix? Or is the leak from the housing itself?

I’m sure that’s all they would do or the $400 they just quoted me to do it there. I give shortie screw drivers and creative solutions, not sure why they don’t. It would probably be easier for me to get the light out and put it back in for them than for me to remove my shell.

That’s true, but, you (at least I) don’t really want the issue (leak) to show up and then have to get it fixed. For some reason Toyota has decided that trucks sold in Canada don’t need the fix. And, you can’t order the repair kit up here. Hope they’re correct on this one!

They ended up glueing a trim ring around the original light and installing some kind of plugs in the frame. They also did the TSB Tune but charged $100 since it's out of the 3/36 timeframe.

TSB is good for longer usually. Might want to pull up the TSB number and see what mileage it covers since a TSB is not a warranty issue.

It was a MT ECU tune that was supposed to be better than stock.

Had my recall done yesterday, tune and tire rotation for $29.

The tune was no charge on my 2017 with 60K miles (well out of 3/36). I don't think you should have been charged.

BTW - I used to manual shift constantly to make up for the horrible shifting. Have not been on the highway yet but around town is a huge improvement.
