I sold my 2000 4runner parts truck. I was recently told that the Upick-n-Pull yards have had 3rd gen 4runners.

Exactly. The fake OEM on the ones I have now do not. In the winter, it freezes (on the Ray 10) and you can get a tiny bit of wheel shake if it's enough.

Which might you think it is?

because i just got in it and after sitting and cooling completely down, now its shifting in and out of 4wd just fine.

i know the tcase is fine. Its something in the vacuum operated ADD system. A solenoid or the actual ADD shift fork assembly/diaphragm

My '99 Limited was playing a similar game recently. It wasn't a solenoid but a shift position indicator switch ( for 4H position) that was my headache. AWD lights lit up on the dash, the center diff lock icon on the dash just blinked when shifted into 4H or 4L and the locker wouldn't lock. I dropped both crossmembers and lowered the trans just enough to squeeze a 1 1/16 wrench up in there to crack the old one loose and get the new one tight.

Your 2000 should be like my '99, it has the "J" shift t-case w/ multimode. Do you get the 4 green "tires" to go solid ( on the cluster ) when you engage AWD?

My new switch came straight from toyota, about $70.

I put stickers for more horse power!
Sorry but, I haven’t had any issues with my 4R 4x4 (yet). I did have that problem with my 2nd gen tacoma and I fixed it by soldering those two little plates in the actuator in the front diff.

Yup, Jshift. my vacuum strength seems to be great. Its also a manual so maybe I can get to that sensor easier :fingerscrossed:

The tcase works perfectly. The solenoids inside the cab click and work perfectly. Its just the ADD doesnt move the fork and the light on the dash sometimes doesnt come on

I'm not sure if the 5 speed 'runners had the multimode t-case system. Does it have a button on the side of the t-case handle? I was able to initially trouble shoot mine when I got stuck in my yard with a load of firewood in the trailer. rear wheel spun, I slipped into 4low and the rear wheel spun, nothing from the front. I got the same in 4H, that's when I noticed the center "LOCK" icon on the dash just blinking, not solid orange. A few 'WTF's later, I slipped into AWD ( 2wd T-case setting, button on the t-case shift lever engaged) and the runner pulled right out of the wet yard with the trailer, no problem. Since AWD worked, I knew that the ADD system was functioning. I got underneath and pulled each switch harness on the t-case and jumped them one at a time on the harness end with a paper clip, when I got to the passenger side, as soon as I jumped the harness I got 4H setting to light up on the dash display. I then could feel that the T-case center diff was locking, allowing 4H and 4L to function.
