those short RIAs work quite well right out of the box ........ better than the Colt and Kimber 'offier' type offerings that have come across my workbench.

You can always send the slide off to some place like Novak's to replace the sights. GI sights suck as you get older and yep, getting older sucks.

Getting older might not be the most fun...but it sure beats the alternative.

Does anyone on here have one of those Tisas 1911's? I've been eyeing them recently and for the price they look pretty decent. The reviews on YouTube and other sites they have pretty positive reviews of them.

I’ve shot quite a few and almost bought one they are a solid foundation to build on being a steel frame and slide. Add some bullet proof WC or another builders parts you got a really nice piece of hardware. They all shot accurate with no malfunctions with good magazines.

it's well worn! The slide and frame are mismatched, Colt/Rem Rand, but that was not very uncommon. It should shoot just fine

Just saw this thread on here and figured I’d show off the few 1911s I have. The top one is a WW1 Frankenstein. The slide has US Navy markings and dates to 1912. The frame is 1918 from the serial #. It later got converted to an A1 in WW2. I bought it about 15 years ago for a few hundred bucks from a retired bail bondsman who carried it during the war and then another 40 or so years back home.

The middle one is a Rock Island GI that I got about a year ago to keep me from shooting the old 1911 so much. I changed the grips to some replica bakelite WW2 style ones. It’s a pretty faithful replica and feels great, but very stiff and not broken in like the one above.

The bottom one I just had to include because it’s basically an exact 1911 copy, just scaled down to about 2/3 the size and chambered in .32ACP. Even breaks down exactly liek a full size. It was my Dad’s little concealed carry pistol and I got it when he passed away last year. It was made in Spain by Llama and my Dad bought it in the ‘70s. I’ve been shooting this little gun with my pops since I was about 12 years old, and I don’t think it has ever had a malfunction once.

I’m not really a 1911 expert, but I did do a good amount of research on it after I bought it and the serial number on the frame and all the armory and inspection stamps, etc… date it to 1918. I also have the original magazine, which is has a 2-tone bluing that is specific to that era also.

From my understanding, A1s didn’t start appearing until the mid 1920s, so I’ve always figured they must have milled the A1 reliefs in the frame by the trigger (and re-blued the frame) during the 2nd world war. The other A1 parts on the gun, like the curved mainspring housing and longer beaver tail are all Colt-made parts that date to 1943-44, based on their markings and features (according to a 1911 history book I have). I remember the guy that sold it to me said he and a few other guys fought over this particular one because it had the US Navy markings on the slide, and that was rare to have even back in the ‘40s. Apparently after WW1, all government 1911s were marked US Army, even all the ones that were issued to the Navy and Marines. He told me he never made any changes to the gun, and it was issued to him during the war just like it is now (except in better cosmetic shape I’m sure). I could be wrong, but that’s where my research and his story has lead me to.

Very nice. I like how you have your Dad's carry gun too. I'm a bid fan on 1911. Love how they shoot.

That top one you have looks like it's in really good condition for being as old as it is. A beautiful piece of history.

After getting the Rock Island CS I decided I wanted a full size 1911 for no other reason than to have one. I put word in to a couple of shops asking them to call if one comes in, specifically a Rock Island 1911A1. In the meantime, I found a decent deal on a Springfield MC Operator that was on consignment. Me likey. The only thing I might change would be the stainless parts at the front (bushing and recoil spring plug). It came with 5 CMC mags in addition to the OE magazine.

RIA “patriot” added to the collection so far 500 rds fmj and 50 HPs it’s the new edc carried in a JM custom kydex holster.
It’s now proved itself to be reliable I’ll be doing a GI rod conversion and Dawson precision sights at some point.
