The 2nd Gen Tacoma DOES in fact have a telescoping steering column!

Actually, I like it closer for some reason; They way my body is constructed, I have a long body but short legs. I feel like I have to really reach if the wheel is pushed away. Also, I tend to push the seat all the way back despite not having the longest legs in the world; I feel crunched up if the seat is even the slightest bit too close to the dashboard.

I was set to receive my dad's 1996 Nissan Pathfinder as a first vehicle, but the by the time I was finally ready to my get my driver's license, the Pathfinder was 13 years old, got atrocious gas mileage, and seemed to be nickel-and-diming us every year when we got it inspected.

The Pathfinder had a sunroof, and the the ceiling was lower as a result; I can distinctly remember that my head almost touched the ceiling because of the sunroof indent. This is not the case with the Taco, partially because it doesn't have a sunroof and partially because interior design went a long way between between 1996 and 2005...

I'm 6'3" with long legs, it barely helps. I dunno if "Telescoping" is the right term. More like "retracting" steering wheel. I find it really doesn't come out any more than any other truck I've driven. It will retract into the dash more than others though, which only helps if you are short af. With how far back I need to have my seat so my knees don't hit the wheel, I need to have my seat back basically vertical so that I can reach the steering wheel without straight-arming it the whole drive.

Interesting...... I must own a 2nd Gen Unicorn

I do have tilt/telescope steering wheel, cruise control, intermittent wipers, Air Con, sliding rear window. None of these items are aftermarket add-ons.

These features are most likely dependent on the trim level of the truck. I would expect a base trim level to be void of theses features.

My truck is an '06 TRD Sport 4wd Access Cab with V-6 and AT. Its probably not a Unicorn.

All 2nd Gen Tacomas have a tilt/telescoping steering column, including mine; A/C was an extra-cost option on regular cabs until the 2011 model year. The only three options you could get on a 5-lug in RC for the 2010 model year were A/C, an automatic transmission, and a sliding rear window; My truck has all three of these. Intermittent wipers are probably the easiest thing to add, and I added them in 2016. From 2005 to 2010 all Tacomas had, at a bare minimum, a CD player and ABS, and like I said A/C became standard across the board beginning in 2011. I have only ever seen one 2nd Gen Taco without A/C, and it was a red 5-lug RC 5-speed model that I saw in a parking lot in Freeport, Maine; A/C was standard on access cabs for the entire 2nd Gen run, but I've only seen a couple base model access cabs with rollup windows in my entire life.

I finally started dating @Stitchgirl90 in January 2023, after having known her since 2009-2010 and briefly reconnecting with her in September 2021; Amanda is one of only two women out of the four I've dated who has a driver's license! I've let her drive my Tacoma a few times, and now she wants one. Among her favorite features of my truck is the tilt/telescoping steering column. Yesterday, we stopped at a car lot in Hatboro to see if they had anything in her price range.

Amanda is on a strict budget, is not picky, and only cares about is that the vehicle she buys has working A/C and gets decent mileage. There was a silver Kia Rio on the lot that more than fit the criteria. She loved the Kia, but was dismayed that it didn't have a telescoping steering column. She also looked at a 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 with only like 10K miles; I will admit that I've reconsidered my opinion on the Mitsubishi Mirage after doing some research, but this particular one was way out of Amanda's price range due to being so new and having such low mileage. Amanda sat in three 2007-2011 Camrys, and they all had the the tilt/telescoping column. There was a 2007 Yaris that did not have this feature; I believe there was one other non-Toyota vehicle that had a telescoping steering column.
