I agree with you. The color combo of the Trail with bronze wheels does have the cool factor. The bed boxes are really useless. I have a 21 Tundra Trail edition, you can barely put a camp chair in there. Trading that in as soon as my 22 Pro decides to show up.

I was really hoping the bed boxes would have been my solution, because I do like them, but for the cost and amount of storage, I couldn't justify it.

I just can't help but feel like this trail version (aside from the color scheme to make it identifiable as the trail edition) is what the TRD OR should be. The OR should have the TRD lift, then there would be no need for this trail edition. They just know that people want the pro grille, they like the color scheme, and most people are looking for simple bed storage. It might be a bit bigger in your Tundra too. The ones I saw for the Tacoma didn't seem big enough to even fit a camp chair (If you are talking about the most bought kind of foldable full size chairs and not a stool camp chair).

Maybe someone who actually has them on a tacoma can post a pic of what they are able to store in there. I imagine if you are creative and organized enough, you can fit some decent things. But again, price to storage ratio comes into play.

I'm still waiting on dealers to take my deposit here in Norcal. Any leads for a dealer that can take a deposit for the Trail? They keep pushing base SRs and TRD Sports.

Have you tried Freeman Toyota in Santa Rosa? I got my 22 SR there recently. No markups either. Before that we were at the dealer in South Lake Tahoe to get my wife's RX350 and they said they could order any Tacoma we wanted at the time.

I did they couldn't give me a date. Supposedly someone had already put a deposit down and there's 5+ people in line. I'm willing to wait but I want to have even a production date in the first half of 22.

It doesn't say which shocks, springs, lift blocks, etc it has, which is what I'm asking.

The Pros have Fox suspension and this thing has..... who knows. No one has posted it here yet but it's for sure not Fox. If I was a betting man, I'd say Bilsteins just like on the TRD lift kit but setup on lower snap ring position for the 1.1" lift vs the 2" of the TRD kit.

Anything I’ve read says the front lift is accomplished through springs. It says nothing about different shocks so my suspicion would be standard SR5 shocks. The rear lift is from a 0.5” block. Again, what I read said nothing about different shocks in the back.

I had a deposit on a trail for a month- until the pricing came out and I had a good laugh. It’s a sweet looking truck though, just not worth the price of admission in my mind.

Seems like the only difference in the pro is the swap from Bilsteins to FOX. I know they use the UCA's but I assumed that was the TRD lift, that it was all the same thing. Seems odd they would have two different setups with essentially the same parts.

No it's not the TRD lift, it's a seperate strut setup, and no the TRD lift is not the same as the TRD pro suspension.

The TRD pro suspension is fox 2.5" diameter internally bypassed (external rear) struts that are 2.5" in diameter down to the lower mount and different linear springs, the TRD lift kit is bilsteint built 2.0" internally bypassed struts that use preload up front on the front springs and spacers in the rear for lift. Basically rebranded bilstien 5110s.

This kit is most likely a 1.5" diameter strut with preload and/or spacers for lift. But we won't know that till someone gets their hands on them and take them off.

Either way the specs on paper do not match the specs on the TRD lift kit on paper and we know they aren't throwing fox IBP's on the trail. So its a different strut/spring package.

They sell the TRD lift kit as an option on the trail but not the Pro. So I'd say it's not that. My bet is on bilstein 1.5s aka yellows with different springs, spacers (including bottom mounts since those are a seperate piece).

Was able to go in and build the Trail on the SR5 package - this is the most expensive version, Dynamic Navigation w no other options, base Trail Edition prices out at $3765. Don’t pick on me for color choice, was just building one out! 27838FAD-D512-4439-AF64-D834CC2400C0.jpg

    A few.
Possibly just longer front coils. It is interesting though that it has 1 1" lift which is the exact amount given with the bilstein 5100s set on the third notch.

Here in Canada it was right around 49,000 plus taxes. Very close to the same price as the Off Road premium or Sport premium.

Trail edition doesnt have a TRD lift... its taller coilovers on an sr5 suspension; nothing special. The OR/sport and "TRD lift kit" are bilstein shocks.

For the price, not really worth it. I can take a 2022 SR $34k, add full fox Pro or other top shelf suspension for $3500, add 17" 4Runner Pro wheels (have them already) $850 and Wildpeaks $900 and still be under $40k and have everything I'd enjoy the most and nothing I don't. Just me though. I don't need the locker, I have a KTM and mountain bikes that get me way more places and much faster than the Tacoma can. Heated seats, backup sensor and blind spot monitoring would be nice but no issue living without them. Even without the lift, my old 18 SR was great and this setup was only $34k.
