Definitely. What bugs is I ordered these specced to be custom valved from the get-go because I know my tastes and they just sent the normal damping. They're being cool about the revalve but wish they set them up how I ordered them from the beginning though so I didn't have to go thru the hassle. They have the clickers (which I ordered just because you can set them softer than a non-adjustable unit) but these on full soft are about as stiff as my tC when I set its Tein's to full stiff. Makes the daily feel like a luxury car in comparison lol.

 

For what its worth, too soft will be harsh too. Lots of times it seems like off the shelf stuff is too soft. My front Kings needed a lot more compression valving and less rebound damping to make them feel good.

 

Compared to the O/R factory suspension with 800 miles on it that I took off.. these feel like riding on rocks @ the beginning of the stroke. They're acting very digressive which is not what I wanted at all. They're adjusting the crack pressure which should help with the on-road quality, but leave the end of the stroke how it is. Once it gets going they're fantastic, but the small bump compliance is garb for my tastes.

My background is lowering import cars and have a lot of seat time doing high performance driving events. I know what I'm looking for on the truck.. and suspension that introduces rattles on my 4 month old truck is not it lol. Excited to get it back though. It was close.. just a bit on the harsh side, and at $4000 for the setup I'm going to be picky. Since Phoenix is a concrete jungle, the trade-off for off-road performance is not worth it with this being overly stiff on the road. Any trail requires a few hours of road travel to get to. I'd be more than happy having the same on-road ride as the stock Bilsteins but would prefer it to be even softer.

 

Is this your first set of coilovers? I think you'll find that tuning out the harshness from small chatter isn't really an achievable task while still leaving enough to absorb a good hit.

 

On a truck. Yes, this is my first truck. Have had numerous sets of coilovers on cars though and am verryyyyy familiar with suspension. There is no reason the on-road quality should be this harsh (teeth-chattering compared to anything else I've ever been in). They can absolutely tune it out with proper valving. The Taco setup has the clickers so I can stiffen it up if I ever need to, but being unhappy in my truck on the road is undesirable af.

 

FWIW, the clickers are a waste of money. They might control some low speed but they wont do shit through the mid and high speed which is where the big hits come into play. And yes your truck should be more harsh than a car if its valved to be ran off road. I've got loads of experience in the car suspension world, and in comparison truck vs car are worlds apart. This is literally why bypasses exist. There is a very fine line with just a coilover for on road comfort and off road performance. My truck rides like ass on the street but takes the dirt like a Cadillac

 

just curious if you are on your first set of E rated tires ? E rated tires alone give a super harsh ride and you will never tune that out...

 

This too. I run D's and they are also stiff and harsh on the road. Off road I dump air and that makes a world of difference.

 

The small bump compliance is mostly what I wanted adjustment of. I literally got the clickers solely to make it softer on-road. Off-road I can't see wanting them anything but as open as possible either, but I'll never get to a trail to test them out if it's going to break my back getting to the trail. This truck is going to see more long pavement trips (MTB adventures in different states) than it will see dirt, but I wanted it capable of being able to handle itself off-road while still having the correct stance. I just want to not hate it for the main use it's getting.

Shocks have been revalved and are on their way back. Will see how it goes.

C load NRG's. They ride much better than the factory Wranglers with this setup.

 

Good thing you don’t live where it gets below 0. You wanna feel stiff, ride in mine when it’s -30 out…. Now that, sucks for the first bit of driving lol.

 

Lol ooooooof. Our lows barely touch on the 20's normally and only a few times a year. But my Japanese suspension on the daily actually seems to prefer the colder temps. I wish it got colder here - I like wearing hoodies and most days I don't even need sleeves lol.

Regardless, hope the new valving will be what I'm after.

That'd be cool and all, but this is hopefully the last winter it sees. Time for a tundra for a daily. But yeah, its pretty brutal until that oil warms up a little bit.

 

Well I had enough for the second time in my life and ditched the tire carrier. Truck doesn’t bounce at 40 anymore or have any reverb after hitting bumps. Boxing the frame and adding tube to the rear bumper helped but wouldn’t get rid of all the shitty aspects of a tire carrier. My camera is in the correct space now, I can haul plywood easily and my truck is shorter.

Had to come up with a way to get the most usable space and keep the tire in the bed. I think this is it. Just needs some fine tuning.

This is my second time coming to my senses haha. Bed space was the killer, but I think I’m good now. So glad to not see that thing bouncing the whole truck when I hit a bump. Hate I spent so much time trying to make it work.

 

I’m going to be ditching my swing out as well. I liked the setup but having the weight of the spare and extra fuel so far behind the axle hasn’t done much for handling lol.

gonna throw the spare in the bed underneath a platform. Hoping to work something into the SUA cross bar to lock it down when that time comes.

 

I've always wondered how these frames would handle a hard bottom out with a bunch of weight behind the axle. I keep picturing a frame getting taco'd if its not boxed.
