I'm transitioning from my Dodge Dakota to a new Tacoma and have a question about transporting bikes in the bed.
I will get a shell and sometimes transport bikes indeed the bed with the shell.
On my Dakota there was a spot low next to the tailgate to put a 2x4. I cut one to fit and put fork mounts on that to mount the bikes front wheel off facing out towards the tailgate.
Doesn't look like the Tacoma has an option to mount like that.
How are people doing this? Just leaving a piece of wood with the fork mount loose on the bed floor?
I am trying to envision a way to use the bed bolts to put something in place.
Also thinking that if I get bed stiffeners to bolt a 2x4 or similar to those.
    Looking for ideas.

Use the search function and click the search this thread only. You will find plenty of options. Better to start from there.

Theres been a few good options detailed in here, but the TL;DR is itll take a little more DIY than the Dakota

Trying some searches, not sure what terms will work best, but have found a couple already. (1755 pages is a LOT to go through)

Got the Spire out today on it’s maiden voyage. First impressions are that it climbs much better than my Slash, both technical punchy stuff and boring fire roads. Descending it is very stable and very fast. It’s a long bike so tight switchbacks can be a bit tricky. Also, don’t take 5 months out of the saddle. Despite other things I do, my bike legs are gone. All in all it was a good day, despite being crazy windy with 50+ mph gusts. Literally got blown off the bike by a gust in an exposed section, hahaha.

Also, those with the 1Up Super Duty. With the bike latched down there seems to be some left to right play with the front wheel. Is this normal? The bike moves and bounces more than I thought it would and it’s a little unnerving. It did the same on my Kuat, but the Kuat was only for wheelbases up to 50”. The Spire has a 50.7” wheelbase and the 1Up is supposed to accommodate wheelbases up to 54” so it should be good. Maybe I’m just paranoid and overthinking it.

Transition had some Spires in stock on their site the other day. Still such an odd feeling to be surprised when a bike shows in stock…not sure if that makes sense to others.

There isn’t any noticeable bouncing or up/down play that I’ve seen on my 1up. But bikes will certainly have some fore/aft movement, and some wiggle on the front. Can’t say it’s enough movement to have been concerning though.

As stated, no wiggles from tire, if it’s wiggling are you locking the tire holders tight enough?

I hope you are getting a long bed or that you ride small bikes. I can’t fit 2 bikes in a DCSB.

I can’t get it any tighter, the arms are causing the tire to indent with 27 psi up front and 30 in the back. It’s more of a wiggle in the front wheel as @backcountryj was saying.
I’m probably just paranoid. Not really a fan of my bikes bouncing around in my rear view mirror, however. Shouldn’t have gotten rid of the truck and I wouldn’t have this problem.

Your best bet is to wait until you get your shell on the truck. My shell is really constricting in "head room" towards the rear latch. I also have a longbed so I have a bit more wiggle room. You need to get a wheel mount by @TMCmakes so your wheel isn't bouncing around in the back. I am probably going to do a mount at some point for out of sight storage when on road trips. Let us know what you go with.

I'm getting a DCSB. In my Dakota, which is about 4 inches longer, two bikes fit. The mounts are more centered and the rear wheels go in the outside corners.

Is that rail commercially available, that looks like a good solution.

I will be waiting until I get the truck, and then the shell - just working on ideas. That wheel also looks like a brilliant solution.
