Finally a recall for the third brake light leak

I put about 30 miles on mine so far and l kinda thought the factory tune was better. The idle is now more abrasive, lost power in 6th, and dropped about 1MPG. It did feel a little stronger in 2nd and 3rd gear and hoping it will improve after some more miles.

 

If anyone wants to see the after / before pic here it is. Additional trim piece is quite evident.

 

Yeah, mine looks just like that. I actually think the "fix" looks better than the stock version, so I am quite happy with it!

 

I had mine done today. I’m also happy with the look.

 

Check the ECU tune TSB. Most are included in the emissions warranty, which you may still be covered under.

"This repair is covered under the Toyota Federal Emission Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 96 months or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date."

anybody know the part number of that trim piece? figured id do it with some sealant myself just as an added layer of security

 

Two parts, I assume one is the gasket and one the silicone?

Finally got my recall in the mail yesterday but mine don't leak

 

Double check the gasket at the top of the lamp. Mine has dissolved completely, always garaged, 11k miles, no signs of visible water damage though.

 

Mine didnt leak either but still had it done, the trim ring looks pretty decent too.

 

any one out there on center cab brake light recall been without there truck for extended period of time , it's been 5 weeks for me ,, I been told waiting on carpet pads & Service pro to clean water damage

 

I spent 3 and a half months awaiting on my truck. Delay was getting replacement padding for the carpet.

Servpro was done within two weeks of getting my truck into the dealership.

 

I just scheduled mine to be done on Saturday, along with my final Toyota Care service. No leaking so far and I'd like to keep it that way.

 

I had fuel pump done today and they would not touch the 3rd brake light due to my leer canopy. Seems like theres plenty of space to complete the job since theres a huge space on the shell around the light. Mine is not leaking but I need to get it fixed for piece of mind.

 

Just picked my 18’ up and they wouldn’t do it because I have a roof wrap …. Annoying.

Dealer won't do my third brake light without taking off my canopy so I ordered the parts listed in this thread. A number of dealers wouldn't sell it so it took awhile.

You get the plastic ring, sealant, applicator, and a plastic sticker in the shape of the light. I think it might be a guard to keep the sealant of the paint while doing the job.

Anybody have the actual instruction sheet from Toyota they can post?

 

Take the canopy off and save yourself the headache.
