I'm looking to jump ship at work. If this one route I'm going down for a company doesn't work out we'll seriously consider moving much further away ie Texas Huntsville etc.

I'm fed up with the cold.

Yup - anything non OEM but what they're really looking for is dropping hid ballasts etc into a vehicle that's not up for it. Especially since those are not SAE DOT approved. That's why Diode Dynamics lights have a selling point - they're DOT approved for use on the road. Almost everything else on Amazon isn't. I have H9s in my low beams which will be technically illegal but they wouldn't know to check that.

In some states you need to cover any aux lights too, I have plastic caps for my ditch lights to put on but don't really need to in RI.

I pass every year with my drop in LED's and the 4 day lighters on the light bar :anonymous: I usually switch off the day lighters but forgot this past year and still passed. I laughed a little when I saw them test the high beams all the whole damn garage lit up! Still got my sticker though

    Hah!

I only have ditch lights and they aren't tied into high beams yet. Want to do a 3 way on off on with highs. I have the auto high beams I never use but would like to still have them tied into the highs.

In MA, for me at least, I have the two front facing pods, two ditch, four side, and two rear pods, all not covered and it passed.

NH has to be covered. RI does not. No clue about others.

Check out Rhode Island! ... don't.

CT doesn't do safety inspections only emissions. NE CT looks pretty nice but I haven't spent a lot of time there and don't know CT taxes. VT and NH are pretty good right up the CT river area up there along the southern borders.

East Providence actually hasn't been too bad. Taxes have gone up since we got here but we're building a new high school (or built, whatever), among other things. There really has been a turn in the city in only the 3-4 years we've been here. So, yeah RI can be shenanigans at times but East Prov is nice. Definitely not rural, though. I have access to a lot of stuff nearby (kayak, MTB trails, etc) but - none of it's good use, it's just nice enough for a daily easy access use.

if I go to RI it's only for Prudence Island! but the taxes anywhere in CT are ridiculous and i'm over the cold

You'll want to look at the total tax burden as well. Not just income, but real estate, vehicle, sales, etc.

    https://wallethub.com/edu/states-with-highest-lowest-tax-burden/20494

My take is that - if you have a normal house and normal cars, IE 2000 sq ft house and a tacoma and a camry for example, whether you're in East Providence, Detroit, Honolulu, etc - it's all going to kind of level out. Maybe the house is more, cars are less, depending on the place, but overall - you'll still be about at the same. Was surprising to see Maine as one of the top tax burden states though.

RI is number 8. Mass is 21. "Taxachussetts" - nah, RI drives worse, talks funnier, higher taxes. Concentrated BS of mass in one tiny little state.

CT I think is driven higher (number 5) from SW CT being disproportionately higher than NE/Eastern CT overall.

Someone has recently suggested Huntsville AL to me, so I might take a look there overall. #40 on this list, that gives me hope :D we'll have to take a vacation down there to check it out though.

In theory yes that's the spirit of the law. Reality is they can really go overboard..my friend's brother when we were kids installed the CHMSL in his 1983 Olds Delta 88 and failed safety for it because it was not OEM, despite the fact that it was federally mandated to be stock starting in 1985.

It really depends on where you "garage your vehicle. " I have had it be three times as much as I am paying now only 3 miles away . City versus town.

Yep, Maine needs to keep collecting those taxes, keeps the tourists well tourists. I’d rather see our sales tax up some and income and excise down some, this makes the tourists tax payers.

California is way lower than I thought, figured they would be up in the New York level.

It looks like Maine is driven by real estate - I wonder if that doesn't take into account homestead exemption. For example old orchard is just straight 20k. I'm in East Providence it's 13% here. I think Providence was like 50% or so. I wonder if that is taken into account or just the straight expected property tax is used.
