How long does it take a Tacoma to re-learn learned values after resetting?

Wondering if anyone knows the answer. If I reset learned values, when has the truck re-learned everything and can be considered stable again? Is it at a specific number of miles or time driving?

Something like 1-2 tanks of gas is a good rule of thumb

I have never reset and didn't even know there was a way to do it! BUT, I can tell you this, that my 2019 TRD Sport took about 6000 miles to really get set, with the transmission and the PCS system. After that, it seems to shift a lot better, although it does still do "gear searching" when it comes to the slightest hills and wants do downshift TWO DANG GEARS when it doesn't have to! But really, it is way better than when it was new. The PCS OFF light finally got to where it never comes on but it took 9000 miles to get there. For the first 3000-4000 miles, it would come on for seemingly no reason, but then it settled down, until I took a cross country trip back in 2019 from the west to the east coast and back. Then, barely an hour after getting on the road, the PCS light came on and would only go out when I pulled into gas stations/rest areas, and started back up again. But then after about 15 minutes or so, the PCS Off light would come on and stay on again until the next stop. It did this all the way across the dang country until I got to the Outer Banks of NC! Then, I went to the truck the next morning, and from then, all the way back across the country to the west coast, it was ok, and has been, ever since! At the Outer Banks, my mileage was about 6000 miles, so that is how I arrived at my own conclusion. Hope this helps.

When I did a battery change on my Tacoma, and later on my more complex RAV4, that caused a reset.

I didnt notice any significant operating difference after just a few miles.

Your newer truck shouldn't take any longer to 'learn' than it did right off the lot.

If the battery is disconnected do these truck have memory as far as the radio presets go? My gen1 tundra didn't.

NO, or at least, my 2019 TRD Sport does not.

Dam, i guess it'd be too much to ask toyota in this day, and age to add an additional circuit for storing memory on this item.

The system is always learning and adjusting. How long that takes, I am not really sure, but if you drive for a while it will learn and adjust to your style. Then if someone else drives for a while it will adjust to thier style of driving. It also adapts to the engine and sensors as they age and change values. This is all to improve and maintain emissions and fuel economy.

I recently replaced my OE battery, and always disconnect the terminals for electrical mods - not once have I had to reprogram radio presets, homelink, or customizable Carista/Techstream preferences. 2019 Sport, FWIW

It's always learning so that it can adjust to changing conditions, temps, altitude, etc including engine wear/sensor shift and driving habits. How long it takes to settle in will depend on how you define it, your driving habits, conditions, etc.

Resetting DTC/AT/LV's is done with Techstream or VF Tuner. The first post in this thread details the whole process: ECU TSB Update | Tacoma World
I did this when I changed aftermarket tunes on the truck. I was hoping maybe a Toyota technician might be on the forum and know a little more about when exactly things should be settled back down. A couple tanks of gas seems to be the overall consensus with other tuners on this forum. The PCS issues you mention are pretty messed up. I've never had issues with that. Is your truck lifted or have bigger tires on it?
The problem I'm trying to solve is the gear hunting on the freeway. So far the tunes have improved it but on these midwest freeways with some steep inclines and wind, the truck still dances between 4-6th gears. I will say the latest KDMax Pro tune has made the shifts feel much less dramatic and bothersome.

Sometimes when you disconnect the battery on these trucks the windows and sunroof won't operate correctly, there is a procedure in the Owners Manual to reset everything.

When I'm testing tunes, I do a few runs around the county. I stop at a gas station and cycle the engine because I feel like the LV's won't "apply" until the engine is shut off and started again. Usually I do about 3 cycles then run back home. Seems to dial everything in pretty well.

OP, the "learning" does not start until coolant reaches a specific temp. So reset on the hot engine.
In my experience, 20-25 miles of a variable speed driving is enough.
During this, all monitors(Mode$06) are getting set, except Evap.
If you have some issues with tunes, don't buy into bs that you need 2-3 tanks of gas and 1000 miles to "settle".

My truck is stock, regarding tires, lifts, etc. And yes, the dang trans still hunts for gears on inclines, and downshifts WAY more than it has to on even the slightest incline, but, it is a lot better than it was when new. I don't mind if a vehicle edges back up to speed on a slight incline; I don't need for the dang thing to downshift two gears and then RACE back up to cruise speed in record time! That is what I would like to eliminate too.

I just received a tune. PCS Off automatically showed and the dashboard will not even allow me to turn back on. Is this normal you are saying? Should I do anything as far as driving to “learn” and turn it back on as soon as possible. I’m a little annoyed

Flashing a tune should not affect pcs. I don't have it on mine and cannot help. Did you check the sensor?

Yes, truck is clean. The coincidence of it turning off immediately after tune was installed has me confused that it couldn’t have been that. Any suggestions on sensor check/cleaning I should be aware of to double check?

Flashing can cause DTC's, so it's important to reset/clear DTC's after a flash. I've had this exact scenario happen after a flash on my own truck but it went away after clearing the code(s) manually. Meet up with whoever tuned you to get the codes cleared. If the problem persists, they should have the ability to read the codes and you can provide them to us for troubleshooting.

Anything specific I should tell him that will help him/me with the situation? He’s having hard time believing as the tune operates on a different system that shouldn’t interfere with PCS/cruise control, which obviously isn’t the case. Is this a fairly simple process/fix? I am not very inclined with this stuff so it’s going to need to be fixed by him. Thanks again for your input and help
