I don't like cats but they are a necessary evil to cutting out some of that carbon monoxide smell that is otherwise always present.

I don't know how the catless guys do it. It's the equal to me using an entire bottle of brake cleaner in an area I'm working on and dumping the whole bottle on that section, all the while standing around getting high off the smell all the while destroying my brain cells for doing so. :(o_O:cookiemonster:

Cuz why not.. lol. I've gotten used to it. It definitely makes itself more present in certain situations.. but Ehh.

Random thought here guys... Bare with me. Doing the oil on both the Taco and Minitruck.. I went to pick up a filter for the Mini.. and after some cross referencing.. I found this. Per AutoZone's little filter guide.. the same filter for my 09 can be used on my 86. (In this case, STP filter P# S3614) But they list a larger STP filter (S8A) for the 86 as well. Would the larger filter work on the Taco for more capacity? Was surprised the Mini could run such a large filter. (both trucks currently the smaller S3614 filters)

I've run the 51516 non-XP for the life of my truck - 178,000 miles, including lots of towing my teardrop. I change oil every 4000 miles (Valvoline full synthetic), and it still comes out looking clean.

Personally, I think the XP filter line might be a gimmick. Sure, it filters fine, but not really any better than the regular one.

Look at the specs of the filters. Make sure each has the same flow rate. Also, look to see if the bigger one has an anti-drain valve (or whatever it's called) like the small one should.

methanol is good for hp but also a nice fuel/cooling idea when stressing a motor. i use it because i hit 12lbs and insurance helps.

12lbs...sheesh...so many questions, lol...Are you running a centrifugal blower or are you just underdrived pulleyed with cats on the m90 roots? ...what size pulley?

Agreed on cooling. Being in Phoenix it was the primary thought as AEM claims a 90 degree iat reduction in track conditions for the V3 design. Plus, I was hoping to get more than 7psi out of the SC and the water/meth would push me back into SC efficiency range.

Do you have any general meth words of wisdom from your experiences?

I started my meth injection curve on my progressive controller at 1psi and peak at 6psi (I only hit 7 psi all in) with a 500cc nozzle....but this thing is drinking meth as I blast around on my new SC. (Truck seems to like it though, albeit super fat).

Do you know what cc nozzle you are running?

If you have a progressive controller, where are you starting the juice?...when do you go all in?

I was thinking of stepping down to the 250cc....but since my progressive controller is linear (AEM), I should be able to set my max flow at 14psi, which would be 50% flow on the 500cc injector AT 7PSI...same as 250cc at full flow at 7psi. I like this idea because I can increase flow in summer and decrease in winter w/o nozzle changes....thoughts?

What do you use for meth juice? I looked locally for some high test washer fluid, but since I am in Phoenix, most stuff is low test. I found the washer fluid booster stuff and can mix it with distilled water, but its no cheaper than Snows boost juice buying 4 gallons at a time.

    Thanks

    Understood on MAF...

Thanks for the added info on the tunes. This is my first Tacoma project and I have a ton to learn...but I was an ASE master auto and light truck and then turned engineer. I have build a nitrous drag car ground up that runs up to its 10 second cage limitations and most recently a 150tq/150hp V twin, fully tuned via dynojet (Tuned for VE at each zone).

I only mention this to say I know enough to get into trouble (i.e. can have a complex technical discussion), but I would like to learn more about your tuning process and I have some questions. I know our DMs went cold when you shifted to third party support, but if you ever have a few minutes for a phone call LMK. Thanks!

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
FYI, we are running the MP90 S/C here. I question how accurate that map on pg 1 is for our set up. Assuming it is close.
For your belt wrap/ slip situation; I'd recommend the rousch double bearing belt tensioner mod (pg 1). Then I think you can skip adding extra pullies, up to a point.

wisdom would be dont have too much too soon. and clean the nozzles every 6 months. snow's juice is great, if it can be shipped to your area. or 1gal -20 blue washerfluid and 3 bottles of heet fuel dryer work. im running a snow controller. cant recall the sizes. #3 primary and #2 secondary. you seem to have more wisdom at tuning. i just guess. mp90 with 2.3 pulley.

I agree and would imagine the map is on the conservative side. What I think is not captured in the map is the actual degree of diminishing returns.... meaning: when you cross the efficiency threshold you get less oxygen per PSI (in simplest terms)....but you're still getting more total oxygen until a point.

I am thinking of it like progressive taxes: the more you make the higher the tax bracket...but you still get more total money the higher your gross income...just less net as a percentage of gross than the lower bracket.

I assume this SC depreciates fairly quickly due to the high likelihood of bypass compared to a turbo, but there has to be some meat on the bone outside of the spec range. And...of course, water/meth changes everything due to the temperature drop in the charge affecting density.

I saw the belt tensioner options on page 1, but I didn't look too close because the one that came in my Magnuson kit seems to have "good" spring tension. However, without me having a reliable way to measure the actually tension on the belt, its subjective.

Now having the bennefit of a few responses here, I am no longer thinking I am seeing slippage at 7psi...or if so, it's minimal. If that changes I will give the roush arm some serious thought -thanks!

The map is accurate. After about 8 psi the blower is not making good power. There is just simply too much heat production going on to be able to add usable timing that is worth any extra power noted. As a matter of fact, you have to pull timing. I know this because I've played with just about all the boost ranges up to about 13 psi or so and these blowers make their power best in the low boost ranges. This was confirmed going over data logs with Justin. Unless you add artificial cooling, those boost ranges are not worth anything to scream home about.

I would also note that as you increase airflow potential on the induction side, the factory exhaust manifolds become increasingly more limiting. The increased back pressure really chokes up flow and can make it difficult to evacuate combusted exhaust gasses. This back pressure can cause airflow through the motor to drop off/plateau.

If you're in the small pulley game, you really need headers (even shorties are an improvement).

I do agree with Rob here though. When you really start dropping pulley sizes, heat becomes a *thing*. Depending on what I mentioned in addition to your driving style, environmental conditions, and *fuel quality* all can set up a situation where a smaller pulley may actually make less peak power than a larger pulley. It'll come on earlier and stronger, but overall output is usually capped.

agreed. especially the last part. comes on earlier and stronger. i almost never give my truck full beans. 2.3 pulley makes so much umph full throttle is honestly scary and rarely useful. example- because of these mods and @JustDSM tuning on partially dry/wet pavement last night i floored it at 45mph and both 35's were squealing. so many thanks and smiles!!
