A little something every chance we get.
Well, the good news is all the putz there was to putz on my list was done by noon or thereabouts.
See this mounting bracket? Well, turns out it's unique to one brand, and they don't sell it separate. And I have extra baskets I need to use. I could have cut up some different ones, and try to modify slots, but probably not worth the effort.

But, I gots' some insulated clamps, and dadgummit, I will use those.

and now my new pizza stones can hang out in the shed as planned.

And I got several coats of primer/paint on the new hitch bar. I'll gloss it up tomorrow.

Now, that leaves me a bunch more time than I planned. Maybe, I should tackle the shocks. All the parts are here......

And the bad news? Well, my 4 hours of truck labor don't work out like my friend who just replaced his entire clutch assembly and all the components in that same time. And put his exhaust back on.....

I found some 4x4 chunks, got my jack, stands, and chocks, and got the wheel and old shock off no problemo! Probably since they had been removed last weekend! First slowdown wasn't major, just took a bit to get it done. The bushings in the rubber tops of the eyelets are juuuuuuuuust too wide to go in the adapter. Mr. Crowbar, and Mr. Vise got that done.

Slowed me down, but I can still move on. Only to find that the bushings supplied for the bottom eyelet are also too wide for the bracket - not to mention hard as heck to thread on. So, apply the crowbar as far as I can.

No dice. I tried the Ag spacers and such at Ace, but who makes a tiny spacer, for a big ass bolt? No one. Our Auto Parts stores have the Dorman racks, and that's all except special big bolts. So, tomorrow I measure, grind some, and use the machine bushings I bought to keep things smooth if I need.

    Oh well....

    Good Morning fellow Porchies!!!

We got an inch of snow overnight - should melt off this afternoon and then rain is predicted for overnight and tomorrow.

Waiting to get the weather call on a hot air balloon flight for this morning - we have a special passenger scheduled...some guy in a red suit with a white beard.

    Merry Christmas to you all!

    Welcome back Ken!!

Sorry for the problems Kurt. Frustrating.

Today is cooking for Christmas dinner day 1. Pork Butt low and slow at 225 degrees. Simple rub, Killer Hogs AP rub as a base layer and Killer Hogs BBQ rub as a second layer. No binder. This should take 10 to 12 hours.

You are right, there was a bit of room and we added an overnight bag and a pair of my sneakers to that space before we left. I was a little concerned that I would be crushed in an avalanche of my stuff when I opened the hatch but everything had settled and pretty much locked in place.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Gals, and a Merry Christmas to all!! :santa:

Glad you made it safe and sound Kevin, and all you other travelers! Everyone enjoy your visits. Just me, wifey, son and pup for turkey tomorrow. Just fine with me. And, Mike, we HAVE to see your decorated garage!! :santa2:

I had a vision of a more simple fix for the spacer issue on the shocks, so I hope to knock that out (well, at my pace) after a quick errand.

Merry Christmas fellow Porchies!! Right now my granddaughters (6 and 4) are in the kitchen helping to make cookies...while we are all listening to Dr. Demento's "Greatest Christmas Novelty CD of All Time" (much to their grandmother's dismay)...

edit: I just heard that the 4 year old is flunking assembly line work (putting sprinkles on the cookies)...

I'm calling one done "good for the day!" As always, it was a compromise of visions. I am a little disappointed that there were so few instructions for these; none provided and sparse on-line. Guess I am supposed to be a smart professional. Anyway, I cut all 4 spacers, impossible to work with otherwise. Added 2 bushings outside, 1 inside, that did the trick. (It since struck me that they should have provided insulator/bushings like were on the top!)

    Here we go.

And, I have exactly one adapter worth of lift on that side!

(It's really crooked - right side higher - honest)

No point in pushing my luck on Christmas eve!! I go clean up now, have a beverage and Eve munchies! Merry Christmas everyone!

Those bushings are incredibly tight, but supposed to be. I had all kinds of fits getting mine in. I ended up using a clamp with a custom chunk of plate steel on both sides to fit around the metal insert and to compress the bushing, and then pounding it from the clamp into the truck bracket. A little grease helps.
    Measure? Grind? Yikes!

Oops... I'm late I guess. It looks like you already have one in.

An extra 1/2" width isn't going in with any grease or hammers! :santa2: The pic might deceive because it's before the bolt is torqued down. Those bushings are snug to the eyelet.

It was the rubber on mine that caused the problem. So yeah, I guess a hacksaw was in order. Looks like yours came out pretty...

I just made the bushings shorter. Put the good side to the eyelet, and shimmed until tight with the machine bushings I bought. Like I said, when I got done, it really seems like they should have sent me more of those bushings that were on the top of the eyelet. I'm going to ask after Christmas....:santa:
