I've only had mine for 10 days or so, but I love it. I use it for CarPlay 98% of the time and I just set it up to load to CarPlay when I start the truck. It takes about 12 secs to get to the CarPlay screen when I start the truck. So far, no reboots but Ill keep checking as time goes on. I use Waze and its great. The screen clarity is a big improvement over the OEM stereo and the sound quality and clarity is also much better.

I only switch back to the Android home screen to listen to the radio, and once the radio starts to play, I go right back to CarPlay screen. I can use steering wheel controls to change pre-set radio stations up and down, and +/- volume from the CarPlay screen too. I have loaded apps to the Android home screen, but haven't used them other than to test them out.

For $350, this is a no brainer in my mind - GET IT!

Thanks for the update, it sounds very positive.

I am also curious to hear if people are still happy after have had these for long enough that the newness/excitement has worn off. With my older Android head unit, it wasn't until a few months in that the glitches started to wear on me.

I’ve had my head unit for like 2 years, it takes like 15 seconds to boot and be able to use CarPlay.

A few minor glitches, one of them being that sometimes I need to change the Bluetooth source on my phone to be CarPlay and not android connection.

Gaia has been frustrating for me. I have offline maps on my phone but the head unit Gaia app requires cell service to show the map. So when out in the woods Gaia is basically unusable on the head unit

I download the area to my phone in the Gaia app. Drive to the area, open up the Gaia CarPlay app and it shows the map trying to load. It’s like the offline map on my phone doesn’t transfer to the head unit

That is interesting about Gaia. My thought was to run it on the phone through Carplay, as I also use the phone as a GPS for hiking (which is my primary use of Gaia). Sounds like that doesn't work so well, but it is likely a Gaia issue, not a head unit issue. I really don't want to have to maintain another set of maps on the head unit itself.

My unit has been in for about a week now. Definitely takes some patience to work through everything, but I think I am about as good as it gets now. I used the AGAMA app for my home screen as it really makes things simple to use and comes highly rated. CARPLAY launches automatically once I figured out how to set it to auto launch. The only thing I have not figured out is the WIFI. Every time I exit the truck the unit by default switches the WIFI off so i have to turn it back on each time, but that could be done that way so I don't blow through all my phone data. Took me a bit, but I also got it to read F instead of C for the temperature. Since I use a Garmin Earthmate for emergencies I get access to the app and all their maps. I installed that and get great topos. So far it works great. I wish I could use the stock GPS antenna but have not found the right adapter yet. I tried just putting the aftermarket one on the dash above the unit, but it could not reliably find satellites there. It is now on the dash by the passenger a pillar and it works great.

My Wi-Fi also switches off when I turn the truck off (or switch to CarPlay). I dont think this can be fixed, its just how the stereo works.

After 2 weeks of perfect usability, I have had to reset my stereo twice in the past 2 days due to the screen freezing. I hit the reset button and it takes about 20-30 secs to reboot and it then works fine again. Ill keep an eye on this going forward.

Does the JOYING unit come with a harness or is it something you would have to purchase seperately?

It comes with the harness, and it's plug and play. Comes with the CANBUS module.

You need to use the brackets that are part of the OEM radio on the Joying unit. There are 5 screws that need to be removed on each bracket from the OEM unit and you only use 1 screw on each side when attaching to the Joying unit. It comes with the Canbus so everything you need to install the radio comes in the box (except the bracket from the OEM unit).

The following is what I did to switch C to F for temp. Go to settings app (my apps look this way as I use the AGAMA launcher). Go into Factory (password is 3368), then select original car agreement (you will see my vehicle selection another line down was toyota camry). Once in the original car agreement screen you should be able to scroll down to temperature unit switch. If you don't see it when you open the screen scroll down as these menus are often several pages long.

Oh. I should also point out this Joying Head Unit is another Tacoma rabbit hole, as now I have been following the 250 buck speaker upgrade link, and dammit if all those items are not mysteriously headed to my house. BTW it is no longer 250 bucks, more like 290 using Amazon and Crutchfield.

So I replaced the stock HU with 9" unit on SR5. This one fits flash with SR5 bezel (small opening)
Was able to put 3 screws per side , drilled out 1 hole on each side.
Question, where do you source gps antenna adapter from? I looked at some mentioned places and all are out.
    Thanks.
