In 2017 I bought a new TRD Off Road that had every option. It lasted seven months before getting rear ended while parked. Totaled. Not a fan of the third generation after that truck but I love the second generation.
Two months ago I paid a premium for a 2013 Access Cab TRD. That is how it was marketed and has the TRD Off Road stickers. It has 3 plus one rear springs, and SR5 badging. But it doesn’t have the bed power outlet or the locking rear differential button. No skid plates. It still had the original upgraded 16” wheels. It was used as a commercial truck the first years. Could this have been a special order truck and those items deleted? Or did I get misled by the stickers? I am not blaming the dealership.

From what I found out if you run a VIN or will come up as a SR5 if it's a TRD sometimes. I bought my TRD Offroad new at a dealer and when you run the VIN ot says SR5. No rhyme or reason

That’s what I thought. Oh well, I really like the truck and it is doing everything I want it to.

    Thanks and Merry Christmas.

I'd pay that dealer a visit, if you paid OR money and got an SR5 that isn't right, you are missing out on the locking diff, along with the resale of an OR. Those wheels are third gen take offs i believe, they do look good!

Man. That is a nice truck hopefully you did not get overcharged. I would bring back to said dealer and at least see what they say. Demand they put in a locker.

I see this on a pretty regular basis up here. Trucks being labeled as OR but missing the key features that make an OR an OR. Trucks being labeled as Sports but missing options. Another frequent thing is sports being sold as OR because the previous owner changed the bedside decals. It happens most frequently at shady lots and non Toyota dealers but have seen it at certified Toyota dealers too. Makes me wonder how many people get duped on a regular basis.

Don’t feel too bad. Misery loves company. Just leased a Taos. Just about anybody buying/leasing a vehicle in the past year got taken to the cleaners.

    nope

Yes, these are 3rd gen Tacoma TRD OffRoad wheels. They look best on anything but a 3rd gen. I saw a set on a Lexus GX470 yesterday and they surprisingly fit well.

Funny that you are in OK. It feels like OK has the highest percentage of "not-as-labeled Tacomas" that I've seen basically anywhere.

I'd go talk to the dealer if your paperwork says it is a TRD OR and you paid money based on that valuation. It definitely isn't and is missing everything that makes it worth the added cost.

I put the third gen tires/wheels on a couple of weeks ago. I also discovered that the middle left rear leaf spring is broken while changing the wheels. I ordered a new pair for a TRD so hope they work.

At least the frame isn’ rusty. I bought this truck to work (not abuse) with our farms and cattle. I have put nearly 3,000 miles on it in less than two months keeping my new Ranger (garage queen) off the dirt and out of the fields. Crazy but I find myself driving this truck everywhere. We keep it spotless on the inside. ONLY 188,000 miles and is proving to be a really good truck.

So you bought first and asked questions later?

OP, just how did the dealer represent this vehicle before you bought it. Any paperwork or book values presented to you utilizing the TRD nomenclature? It would indeed have an effect in pricing.

I’d put the Tacoma in the garage and the Ranger outside.

some shitbag slapped a sticker on there + bend-on-rocks bars and called it a day

some tell tale signs of TRD OR:
-8" rear ELD with actuator and button
-studded fuel tank straps holding a skidplate
