You don't need a lift to go offroad. It might be nice sometimes but it is absolutely not necessary. My 21 Sport goes offroad all the time with the stock suspension and 255/85/16s to provide extra ground clearance and improved traction with better tires than stock.

If you just want an excuse for new shiny stuff then by all means, but don't think that the truck will shit the bed the moment you leave the pavement with stock suspension.

 

the TSS is affected the same way with a king or fox lift as a trd lift. There’s real no difference in that area.

as far as warranty, the only thing “voided” or not longer “covered” are the components you replace. However I’ve seen some dealers not warranty a trd lift as well.

 

The OEM lift comes w/ a grill to change the position of the TSS sensor.
If the truck is still under warranty and you're only looking to go up 2 inches, it seems like the safer option. Sorry, I wasn't implying the warranty would be voided.. I've read of cases where the dealer tries to deny warranty work based on modifications that may be even slightly related to the problem.

 

The grill is the heritage grill and the sensor position is the same as the regular offroad grill there’s no difference in position. However you are correct in some dealers will warranty the shocks themselves.

 

The sensor is positioned lower in the Heritage/Pro style grille compared to the stock one. I haven't looked into it much but I'd assume that it is still roughly the same height above ground with the lift and new grille so that the systems work properly.

 

I have a heritage grille with TSS on a truck with stock suspension, still works flawlessly. I would imagine it would be the same on a mild lifted truck (1.5" to 2") with the TSS in the standard non-heritage grille location. A 1.5" to 2" height change is pretty minor.

Anyway, I agree that a lift really isn't necessary for offroad fun. These trucks are literally designed for off-road use in stock form.

 

Just when I was thinking that I had decided on which lift to go with.........this thread pokes me in the eye lol. Now I have to add the Toytec kit to the mix. There are so many great options. I like the thought, use and adjustability of the coilover, my use will be all slow crawl straight forward camp/fire roads mostly with some occasional exploration, its my DD so she has to maintain some semblance of ride comfort. Here is a question....why does Toytec recommend and include a diff drop kit and the others don't really mention it if you're not going over 3". I thought that was curious and it made me pause on the other lift options.........do they know or believe something the others do not. Most say on here you're good if you stay under 3" what gives?? As far as price go's it appears the Eibach Stage 2 is the lowest. Oh and can anyone explain the difference any better in the Deaver vs the HS 3 leaf. I mean I was all set to go with the HS 3 leaf and now shit........I don't know

I should note, I recently put 275's on with a HD rear bumper (crushed the original so replaced with something a bit more rugged) and of course they rub a little. Gonna lift her before I get alignment done......wifey has give me the green light soooooooo, budget is under 2k....... (WHICH WAY WOULD YOU GUYS LEAN?) Thanks!

 

Lift won’t fix your rubbing, proper alignment, trimming and wheel offset is the solution. For $2k you’d probably be best with Bilstein 6112s, 5100s, a full leaf pack rather than AAL and new upper control arms. You don’t need flashy external reservoirs for slow crawling fire roads.

^^This. It's not just the warranty on the replaced components that's the issue, it's a dealer denying a warranty claim on anything remotely suspension/lift related. That will vary from dealer to dealer. Some work with you, some don't.

 

I get the alignment part and completely agree. The wheels are 0 offset with 4.75 backspace and I like them sooooo. The front mud flaps were removed, still rubs slightly on the lower corner wheel well liner mostly when turning in reverse and when hard turning, specially while flexing (if I'm even explaining that correctly?). Is a full leaf pack really necessary? Why new UCA if I'm keeping it under 2.5" of lift other then giving me more alignment options? Wait......did I just answer my own question....hahahah.

 

I know you're looking more for lift answers but have you taken a heatgun to the wheel well plastic in the meantime?

 

Does this $2k budget include wheels and tires? Because that changes everything

 

Have not done that yet..........my guess is that if I do that and do an alignment it will cure the problem without the lift.
