What do you guys think of this? There is an article in car and driver about it. I couldn’t figure out how to attach the link.

I don't find RVs all that interesting to begin with. I would have rather seen a Regular Cab pick up truck build, or a Regular Cab prototype build.

Put a 3.5 V6 on a 3rd gen platform with the wheel basse of a RC pick up, and you could pull a small camper with it.

Turd gen is your choice for the foundation with a 3.5L? And a short wheelbase pulling a camper kinda kills the point of a short wheelbase doesn't it?

Is it Friday? Asking for a friend.

Probably. I just want Toyota to build a Regular Cab midsize truck. You know sort of the purpose of a midsize truck, short wheel base, small footprint.

If someone chooses to pull a trailer for what ever reason, they would be able to do that. Or they could not pull a trailer.

I think a regular cab Tacoma with the appropriate amount of power, and payload capacity. Would provide more versatility than this Tacozilla.

I'm pretty sure Toyota still sells standard cab Tacomas in Mexico.

I don't think the intended purpose of this tacozilla is versatility. It appears its purpose is camping/overlanding.

I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone. Peace.

Yes it is purpose built, I think it looks a bit cumbersome. The chassis is underpowered, for it's size and the camper isn't going to handle well offroad. I think it's a cool build, just not a well planned build to be very practical, but that isn't the point of the build.

Instead of an impractical build. I would have rather seen something more practical, like a Regular Cab Tacoma. With more power than the previous generation RC Tacoma.

I think that would have brought more attention to Toyota as a brand than a Tacoma camper.

Look, I love my midsized truck, don't get me wrong.... but imo that build belongs on a Tundra. Hard to believe that thing isn't already close to the gvwr unloaded. Pretty much everyone running around with an in-bed camper is overweight already. Just think it's the wrong platform for it.

yes like $300k for something you could build yourself for less

I guess whoever thought of it felt there was something really appealing about a shitty slow engine that can barely move the truck alone unweighted
as opposed to literally everyone else picking diesel torque for this job
which has higher compression and more energy content despite the same engine size

not to mention the fact that small trucks with diesels exist, and diesels would fit a Tacoma just fine
Toyota just never gave a fuck to import that engine and nobody noticed the difference. Everyone was happy with shitty slow poor-MPG gas engines and still is.

maybe given the sliders, snorkel, spare relocate, and lightbar, it's meant to "off road"
so with the $300k price tag, maybe they fit in an upgraded transfer case ratio like Jeep Rubicons have
where that leverage will help handle the weight crawling better
    I'll bet they didn't

Nothing to add except this is the 15th thread on this same truck. Have you tried the search button?
