GO PRO VS. CONTOUR HD

Im sure he got a lil spray from my roost haha and trust me that shit hurtsss. Dont get me wrong, im sure WTF guy, went through my head, but ive been riding for about 10 years, things like that keep you on your toes. In an open practice like that you really dont have a choice of whose in your group. They do have organized practices at some tracks where you will only be in your skill level groups. I used to ride bmx (not quite road cycling but asphalt) and i know that stuff hurts, bad thing about wreckin in a sandy/dirt track is you may not scrap yourself up, but your more prone to snap something if ya wreck.

Very good article i had never heard of the second camera, but i will have to stick by my original choice. GoPro FTW

 

I have a ContourHD and my buddy has a GoPro, the Contour seems to do a little better in low light situations.

I was in this same situation at the beginning of the month. I liked the design, easy to use buttons while in action, and the gps, but I ended up going with the gopro. Supposably the gopro cuts wind noise better among other things. Such as, the gopro has the nice waterproof/elements proof casing, many mount styles, and has many good reviews. I have only done one easy shot with it so far, anyone have any good ideas for mounting while riding a quad? Just go for the helmet mount?

 

You can try a handle bar mount, or post it on one of the fenders but the racing quads i rode before, i remember the fenders moving around alot

I use it on my helmet for my snowmobile. Too much vibration off the chassis. Wind noise is not an issue, but I keep a spare charged battery inside my coat & usb charger in my backpack.

I USED TO HAVE THE CONTOUR, BUT SOLD IT DUE TO POOR MOUNTING OPTIONS AND SHAKING, got the GoPro, and haven't looked back.

you are supposed to get 200-500 skydives before using a wingsuit, supposed to have the same amount of skydives to BASE jump. you should have a lot of wingsuit skydives and a bunch of BASE jumps before any wingsuit BASE.

max $2k to get off student status skydiving. (first 7 jumps and class)

then it's around $23 a jump and $20 to rent a parachute if you don't own one.
BASE jumping is free aside from travel and gear but you need to find someone to teach you. BASE is pretty tight knit and won't just accept a newbie that shows up talking about wanting to do the stuff they saw on youtube. gotta pay your dues being ground crew etc.

 

Cool stuff! Footage looks excellent. That last line there caught my eye, though. Knowing what I know now, I can understand some of that, but it reminds me of new racers and the SCCA. Some of these poor guys can't run their first year, paying membership and track fees, only to be "support personnel." I walked away from that garbage. Went to NASA (racing) and never looked back.

I was behind the wheel from day one. Not out getting people water, picking up trash and directing the parking lot's traffic, etc.

Don't get me wrong. Sometimes I can't run (broken car, work schedule, whatever) but i'll make an effort to get out there and help support the track and the association, because i'm a good guy, but also because fellow racers and association folks like to see it. However, it's not mandatory to earn anyone's respect or as a right of passage, so to speak. Sorry, had to get that out there.

Looks like a ton of fun though! Something I may wanna pursue, just not the wing suit, though. I'd have to buy a new one after each jump.

GoPro is a good setup. I have an HD model and have really enjoyed it so far. It has been mainly for skydiving but I have also taken it whitewater rafting and surfing.

I will try to post some pics and video soon.

 

It you are going to use it at any speed over 20 MPH exposed to the wind, get the GoPro... The Microphone in the Contour is not isolated from the camera body and creates hellacious wind noise in your recordings.

Otherwise I'd fully vote for the Countour HD.
