Guy had a malfunctioning battery pack and Tesla told him not to drive it or charge it. But he did both. Parking next to a Chevy Bolt is more dangerous.

The video doesn't show him driving it. I wonder if it was plugged in at the time it caught fire?

A friend of mine who owns a Tesla had his Hyundai Santa Fe go up in in flames in his driveway on Christmas Eve. Any car can burn. 100% of the car fires I've ever seen in person have been non-Teslas. If you're worried about this stuff don't park near anything.

That went up dam quick though. Holy shit.

Most vehicle fires involving ice, that are not a result of a crash, occur under the hood. The fuel tank usually never ignites, and the overall amout of fire is small.

I can't see much from the video, but I can't see any cord running to the vehicle.

Where is it documented that the vehicle was charging?

I would think that the vehicle was plugged in due to the initial smoke emitting from the rear.

If you're parking next to any cars in a lot and not at the ass end of it next to nothing then you're doing it wrong.

I think you're trying to say that EV fires are worse. Which I agree with.... But here's the photo of the "small" fire while they waited for the FD to show up. A fire extinguisher and shovels of snow couldn't put the fire out. Luckily minimal damage to the home since they caught the fire quickly.

The majority of the fire in at the front of the car at the engine bay. I would say that is a relatively small amount of fire. Considering only 20% off the vehicle is on fire. Had the other 80% of the car been on fire there would have been a lot more fire.

Obviously a small amount of fire can cause catastrophic damage, and fire does spread.

I’d be hesitant to try putting out any vehicle fire unless there is imminent danger to human life. EV fire would be very difficult to put out with a hose, not sure if there would be be added dangers with the amount of power stored.

They'll develop a powder to put these out fast, they just never needed it. I see car fires quite a bit. ICE are 99.9% of them.

I’ve been following a number of recent Tesla fires. More water was required to extinguish them than we use on a typical room and contents fire. We carry 3500 gallons on our tanker and that wouldn’t be enough based on some recent Tesla fires in PA.
