Just looking at these trucks the Frontier and 3rd gen Tacoma, they should be making a minimum of 400hp.

A full size Tundra (2007-2021) only makes 381hp.

I know... but with the the amount of scoops, vents, fender buldges, and soon to be luevers. The trucks should be putting out more power.

Midsize trucks are over styled for what's under the sheet metal.

Nissan's VDC and ABLS systems work well as demonstrated here.

Both the Anchorage and Fairbanks Toyota dealerships had several TRD Off Roads on Thursday and Friday. Though this is why.20211217_133040.jpg

Edit: and it is a long bed, so makes your point.

Well i for one will never have the need for any rock crawling like that with any vehicle. We have plenty of softer stuff here like snow, and mud that the tacoma does just fine in.

A $7K dealer markup on a Tacoma that you used to be able to get for a couple K under MSRP. That’s ridiculous.

I like how the new frontier looks. The reality is everyone is making their mid size truck very Tacoma esque. The Ranger is probably the most like Tacoma.

Over dramatic? I don't think so. The TRD OR is not dramatic at all. So much better looking than the gen 2 with it's bug eye headlights. But opinions are like noses and are usually irrelevant.

It does for sure, but from several test drives I have had, the Tacoma rides better, and handles better. The Tacoma also feels much better put together. My biggest complaint about the frontier has always been that it feels and rides clunky and cheap. Every single time I have compared the Nissan and the Toyota, I have picked the Toyota. Well, twice. Once in the 90's and last year. Still, if the Toyota wasn't around I would likely pick the Frontier over the others. I trust Nissan reliability over Ford, Dodge or Chevy. I have not driven this latest Frontier, but I did drive the old version with the new engine. it has power. Still, I would have preferred Nissans 3.5L VQ V6, quite possibly the most reliable engine Nissan has ever made. I have owned several and they were trouble free engines to 200k+ miles.

I like the way the 3rd gen looks. Sometimes I think it looks a little to aggressive for a midsize pick up. I like midsize pick ups, but they are mundane vehicles. Which is fine, that's why I think the styling is on the dramatic side.

Maybe I'm not a fan of modern vehicle design. Most new vehicles that you can buy today. Have an agressive outward design. Take something as boring and practical as a mini van. Have you seen the current generation Toyota Sienna, and Honda Odyssey? If those things debuted at the 1966 Detroit Auto Show, attendees would have thought Japan was building time machines, along with automobiles.

I am an old schooler as well, but since we are not getting that back in any way ever, I will take modern. You gotta admit, the modern lineup of mid size trucks from all brands are some of the best designs we have had in a while. Some trucks need a change, like the Tundra, that thing is just Fugly. If I were to buy a full size truck, it would not be a Tundra. I draw the line at a truck that looks like it is driven by an 80 year old, bland and boring. I guess you can spritz it up a bit with full chrome delete or dark colors, but still, it is ugly. Best thing they could do, is make it more Tacoma esque.

I like the late 70's and early to mid 80's Toyota Pick up styling the best. Next would the 1st gen Tacoma, although the 1st gen is a bit much when it comes to styling. Toyota spent a lot of time dressing up the sheet metal on that truck. I always thought the sloping, and rounded front end didn't flow very well with the rest of the truck. I wouldn't say it looks bad, maybe if the 1st gen had more of a squared off front end it would look more cohesive. I thought the 1st gen, had a car like front end when looking at it from the side.

The truck might have looked terrible with a square front end.

If the grille had been more square, I think it would have been better. Nothing is ever perfect though. I absolutely hate the 3rd gen TRD OR grille. All 3rd gens should come with the pro grille as a start. I bought a spare one that I was going to plasti dip and when I saw how flimsy and cheap it was, I ditched it and my original and went with a real steel grille. I do a lot of driving in the mountains and there tends to be semi's all over. I have had semi's kick rocks up and have had rocks smash a headlight. If that rock had hit my grille, my radiator would have been penetrated. A friend of mine just had that happen to him in his range rover. Rock went through the grille and into his radiator.
