Hope your truck & more importantly you're OK. I've had several similar run ins with the big lemmings. The worst was when one impacted squarely on the driver's side A pillar of my ML430 at 70 mph on the interstate. An inch either way & my skull would've been porridge. I really didn't bemoan the substantial damage to the vehicle, just thanked God I was still alive.

Thank you, was basically just really shaken up after that. Shined a flashlight on my truck and looks like just a small scratched area on the bumper that I should be able to run the buffer over. Wow sorry to hear that happened to you but sounds like everything worked out ok if the A Pillar took all the impact.

Our frames get plopped on the ground and torches till they fit on a traditional pallet, taken out back and eventually forklifted into a gigantic dumpster thats taken to the scrap yard for money.

They know how to stop the frames from rusting out, better and thicker steel. There was a cost analysis and it is more profitable to do what they are doing.

Thicker steel in a different alloy is not what's needed. All that's required is a better finishing process. You are correct in that this would cost more money though.

If you read the instructions, there's time allotted by Toyota to cut up and scrap the frame you swap out.

The sudden and unexpected crap-out of my alternator earlier this month caused damage to my battery that didn't manifest itself until last night; The AAA battery was barely over a year old, but it was dying, so I pulled the trigger on a Yellow Top!

If it's not one thing it's another, hopefully that one lasts awhile.

Well, that battery wouldn't have been totally destroyed if the alternator hadn't shit itself not only during a DoorDash run, but on a Saturday!

I have been spraying my truck with fluid film since I got it. I am the second owner and it was a couple years old when I bought it. Last year Toyota inspected it and said it was good and did the CRC treatment. I keep fluid film it every fall.
How good the CRC? Anyone had problems and got frame replaced after the treatment?
By the way I don’t think the new trucks have a better frames. I have been seeing gen 3s with rusty frames.

Original Toyota battery from 2009 lasted five years and the Interstate Megatron that replaced it lasted six years...

My wife in April 2008 was one of the first in Massachusetts, 96 ext cab..just happened to bring for service and they checked the frame, failed, called her in and told her. I've yet to hear of a 95.5-2000 with issues not being bought back, though I've heard of 01-04s being reframed. I surmise that they bought some kind of insurance policy to defray some of the reframing costs at that point onward. I know the total cost on mine this summer was 17K and only $1000 of that was extra, shocks/struts/coils on my request and purchase. My 12 year old truck even with low miles for year ain't worth 16K if I returned to mostly stock even.

I got the CRC applied in spring 2018. Mine failed second inspection in April 2021..see my album for pics, but I found 2 10mm holes on the passenger side rail and one of them just pushing with my finger caved in to a 1x2 inch hole. I never did any other treatments on it in the time I've owned it, October 2012. That said, bet your butt I had it Woolwaxed in the fall this year and plan to continue to do so.

OK so technically this is battery #4? I thought your OEM lasted a while for some reason unless it's b/c mine did

We have to ensure its destroyed or scrapped instead of re-used or sold. They're so big we cut them in half right away.

I kinda want to make a bumper with some frame material. A Sunday bumper I guess.
