My sisters father in law had his Tacoma burst into flames for no reason. I think they are still trying to figure out the cause.

but ev fires are definitely worse.

There are dry powder (copper) agents for extinguishing lithium fires.

But getting the agent into a battery pack is the issue and it basically just coats it and you wait for it to cool like a heat sink. They are not recommended for use on battery packs even so the Navy low-key pushed development of them for that use years back.

Tender (west coast) vs Tanker (East coast) confusion?

Lots of rural and semi-rural depts run "pumper tenders" or "tender pumpers" as their first out "engine" with like 2 dudes especially at VFDs or small combination depts. Actually is pretty effective if you have something like a car fire that doesn't require a ton of tools or staff but you want a lot of water.

New England FDs seem to love their monster 3 axle Pumper/Tanker/Rescue engines.

So no one has come up with this yet? Clearly this was the Space X mode. Just hit the ignition button. But it’s still in beta so wait a while to try it out.

    Tankers have wings.

Tankers with 3000+ gallon capacity are "Very Large" according to the federal government.

Growing up the county had a 2500 or 3000 gal tender with a pump I thought was the best thing ever. Now we just run 4 and 5000gal water trucks with lightbars. CalTrans has nicer water trucks than many CA agencies.

My favorite are the ghetto home built tactical tenders you see little one man contractors driving at wildfires. I saw one that looked like a cabover Peterbilt that had teeth painted on the front like a P-40 Warhawk.

The amount of energy stored in a fully charged EV battery is equal to about 2 gallons of gas. The fun and games of a lithium battery fire comes from the flammable electrolyte.

My Tesla is supposed to be delivered in January/February and I can't wait. I think the whole EV FUD factory is kind of funny, and sad. Sad because some people feel threatened by a car. Funny because of the ill-informed shit people talk. The best one so far for me is when my sister in-law told me in no uncertain terms that Teslas are tiny and have no head room.

That sounds pretty methtacular. The sheer amount of stoners and tweakers at wildfires never ceases to blow my mind. Reminds me of the one guy on the LP who can't seem to get his old international 4x4 working in line with their 4 year recertification, he pulls his showers and sits there bitching about the rift between CDF and the feds for weeks on end.

I'm 6'1" too and getting the Model Y. The way she was talking about it you'd think I was 7' and played for the NBA. I'm sure when the car gets here there will be more silliness from her. It's just who she is as a person.

I recall Tesla having a run of this a few years back and Tesla's catching fire in peoples garages. Something to do with the batteries I think...
