I had to watch it again to catch that. Looks like a double insurance fraud attempt.

I'm thinking more that the guy that lit the gas on fire should spend the rest of his days rotting in jail somewhere for attempted murder

No, you're right. Last year only 40,000 people died. That's only about 90 a day. or about 1 every 15 minutes roughly. That's also not accounting for people who survived and are maimed/disfigured though. With crumple zones, and modern medicine, more and more people are surviving accidents, but many of them are life altering. Even then it's not really that much of a concern, you're right. I don't really want autopilot for safety, I want it because in my opinion, we're much better off letting the computers take over for most people on the road. I think there would be a lot less stupidity like cutting across 6 lanes of traffic or going backwards on a freeway because they missed their exit. There would be a lot less traffic congestion in big cities because the cars would be able to better plan and adhere to their route.

And as for the stats. The NHSTA does their's by most the metrics you listed. Age, Gender, time of day, day of week, urban vs rural, etc. Oddly enough it's the cause of accidents they don't list, just the when, where, and who. https://crashstats.nhtsa.dot.gov/Api/Public/ViewPublication/813118

So what you're saying is that if other races want equality they're going to have to start crashing and dying more? Have fun promoting that! Reminds me of Carlin.

Its a joke. The real question should be why they track traffic fatalities by race to begin with. Especially when there are much more relevant data points that they're missing. They have the who, when, and where, but they ignore the how and why aka, the Cause. The one bit of information that could be used to help reduce the number, because you can't change day or night, time of week, or race.

The threshold on obtaining a driving license could be raised. The writen test could include question on how to safely change six lanes. Along with what you should do once you have driven past your desired exit.

Eliminating six lane highways might help elevate some problems that occur on the road.
The need for a six lane highway, is probably a good indication that there are too many people in one place.

    Not following?

Seems the fatality rates are roughly similar to the population distribution, though the % Black fatalities is a bit higher than population %

(and I’d imagine there are a ton of correlative factors having nothing to do with “ability”)

Here in California the the insurance companies told the DMV that driving on the freeway was too dangerous, so they took driving on the freeway OFF the driving test... That was around the same time traffic started getting worse. I was a truck driver at the time, and quit a year later. Too many idiots on the road made it too stressful. Plus other truckers were telling me the same thing motorcyclists say. It's not IF you're going to squash a car that cuts you off, but WHEN. My last year driving I was in court 5 times. Dashcam saved me all 5 times and they were all the same story. Idiots missed their exits. No matter how safe you drive, or how safe the vehicle is, you're still only half the equation. That drunk teenager on the way to his tinder date doesn't want to wait the extra 5 minutes it will take to hit the next exit and for the gps to reroute, and he definitely doesn't care about the braking distance of a truck. The states however, rather than try to educate their citizens, put more punishments on the truckers. And that's here with most the freeways I drive on being 2-4 lanes and me driving a big box truck, not an 18 wheeler.

but hey, that just makes good opportunities! I read about a company offering $5/ mile for colorado. Sure that will lead to cost increases for the end consumer, but that's life. Often times we are the ones to blame for the state of our lives.

But only if it's 2wd. The 4x4 models are the same rate.

The rate for most of the trucks seems to be significantly lower for 4x4 versions.

    Lots of interesting data there.

I noticed that the rate for the Mustang pretty much doubled when going from Coupe to GT Coupe.

Lots of power + attainable entry cost + inexperienced drivers = Mustang SVA (Single Vehicle Accident)

The question is, is a Mustang GT Coupe more likely to crash, or is the kind of person that is more likely to buy a Mustang GT Coupe more likely to crash?
