Rear Seat Delete Decks

No particular reason, I just needed it tall enough to hold some of my fishing gear securely.

 

With a car seat in the back seat, you might as well take out the front seat! The fronts are useless for normal sized people with a car seat behind them.

 

Do you recall the specs for the seatbelt bolts? I'd like to secure mine in the same spot.

 

Seatbelt bolts are a special thread, the easiest place to find them will be the dealer

 

This is similar to what I did, although you did a much nicer job with the supports.

The enclosed platforms and access doors in this thread look killer but I don't want to have to empty everything out of the platform area to get to stuff stored underneath. Open sides make it easy to access everything down there. I removed the lid to the underseat storage as well so I wouldn't ever need to lift the platform to get to the jack and anything else was with it.

My camp stove fits perfectly below the platform while the propane cylinder nestles in next to the jack. Tool kit and shoes sit on the floor mat. Really liking it. The only addition I might make is to add a cabinet with shelves or drawers. I'm terrible for having stuff pile up on the platform during trips so some better organization back there so I'm not having to dig for stuff would be awesome.

 

Like, the thread type won't even be sold at the hardware store? I'm just trying to find a longer bolt of the same thread. I guess I'll take it out and bring it with me to see what I can find.

 

Yes, you can purchase longer bolts with the same thread pitch at a decent hardware store. I can’t remember the size but there was nothing “special” about the bolt.

 

I don't off the top of my head but I can get those for you later today. They are actually a standard bolt size, but what's weird is they are not metric like the entire rest of the truck. They are sae

 

It’s a 7/16-20 thread with a metric head, it’s not a standard bolt you will find at lowes

 

I just re-found this thread and figured I should post this setup here as I definitely looked at this thread for inspiration back when I built mine. I deleted my single rear seat (driver side) and built a platform for a @Dometic CFX3 55IM and PLB40. Figured mainly it is myself plus one on trips and I could still put two passengers in the rear with seatbelts if needed. Really stoked on this setup and have used it a ton so far. Quick rundown, the fridge runs off the PLB40, which is plugged in to the vehicle. So when the truck is off, it is purely running off the PLB40, when the truck is on, the PLB40 is charging. I may run an all-time hot plug to the PLB, as I now have an Odyssey group 31. We'll see though as I do like it being completely separate. On to the pics...

I did an initial layer of Stinger Roadkill Expert sound deadening to the rear wall and floor where the seat was removed. I drove it before doing this, and it was very loud. This made a drastic improvement, however it was still a bit louder than the stock seat in place, so I ordered some more and did the entire rear wall. See next pic.





I did a full layer of each type and also built/catpeted a triangle plug for the hole from the platform to behind the seats. Forgot to take a pic of that...


This is the rear wall I made. I added a lip to conform/ go over the top a bit to try and help mitigate sound escaping. The hole in the middle is for the latch the seat retains off of, as it would not allow the board to sit plumb.


Few shots of the platform itself before carpet. I wanted it as high as I could get it while still able to get the lid open. This enabled a decent amount of space below for storage. Under the platform full time lives a CLS bag (trauma/first aid), air up/down gear (orange bag), binoculars, and an 1/2" impact gun and drill with batteries, beater knife for batoning fire wood as well as some misc stuff in the stock compartment like trashbags and duct tape. For mounting I bolted the platform to the stock seat brackets, which worked out really well. I was originally going to put some L brackets at the rear, connecting to the rear wall. That said it felt so solid I ended up not using them.





Some pics after install w/ carpet. Learned a lot with the carpeting, this was the biggest PITA imo. Wrapping presents is not my strong suit.

Had to get creative with how the fridge is strapped down, due to how tight it is in the back with the handled butted up against the back wall. Ended up mounting the d-rings under the platform and running the strap between the wall and the platform in the rear, down to those D-riungs to pull it all the way back and down, and it's rock solid.

Only thing I might change is moving the PLB40 to beneath the platform, by cutting a hole in the plastic storage lid/cover to have the PLB stick out the top. Only downside will be not seeing the charge level.

Cooler review: I absolutely LOVE this thing! Going outside as often as I do, this thing is a game changer. The obvious is not having to get ice before each trip, but the biggest benefit is the space gains compared to a cooler filled with ice. I can fit more than enough food & beer for everything I've done so far (longest so far is 6 days no resupply) and I really haven't needed to get too creative with the packing yet. I would definitely recommend making the jump, it is well worthwhile.

haha no I just leaned it all the way back to show it clearing and a little more scale

 

What latches are those?

 

They’re called compression latches. I got a cheap pair from Amazon because they can get pretty expensive and they were sold out in a lot of marine/boat stores. I wanted locking latches so my dog didn’t accidentally open them and I can store guns, etc.

 

First time ever tackling a project like this. Kind of just making it up as I go. Have the mounting holes successfully cut out. Still working on the back piece. Bought some Raptor Liner too. Just going to focus on sanding and finishing up the edges. I'll cut some lids on my laser and laminate them later. Need to straighten up those cuts first. KillMat will be here tomorrow.

 

Not a 3rd Gen, but I got a lot of good ideas from this thread.
I removed the back seats and safety belts.
I replaced the back panel and built the deck.

 

I like the simplicity

 

Anybody used these? For $100 seems good priced for what I'm looking at over diy. Or am I reading this incorrectly.
