The ultimate foglight upgrade H11 (not LED or HID)

Any pics of where you guys mounted the Rally/Susquehanna harness relay? I just received my harness and I'm undecided as to where to mount it.

 

Curious if a 20amp relay would be sufficient for the Flosser 90w bulbs? I did some calculations and it looks like the amperage draw should be around 12-15 amps (6.1 amps per bulb @ 14.7vdc and 7.5 amps per bulb @12vdc) which gives about 5-8 amps of headroom.

I have used this relay setup on other projects and it works great. Nice small packaging, 12awg primary wiring and waterproof.

I had just tucked mine in between the battery and fender, wasn’t hard mounted. But others have found spots on the fender wall there to mount them. More ideas are posted in the 2nd Gen headlight thread for relay mounting if you ask over there.

Yes a 20A relay would work. As you point out 180w/12v=15A, which should provide the adequate needed headroom.

The listing doesn’t specifically say what kind of relay it is. You want a 5 pole that has a double output. Ie both pins 87 and 87a become energized by the contact is closed. This would mean each headlight would have its own wire going from the relay to the headlight with no splicing.

 

The relay is a 4 pole relay. Which should be just fine for fog lights.

 

Gonna bump this thread, any recommendations on an obtainable stock wattage bulb for the 2013+ Fogs? realized one of mine is out. (which is pretty good considering its on all the time and 8 yrs old)

 

Best stock wattage bulbs would be the Tungsram Platinums or Xenon +120s, or Philips Racing Visions. In H4 the Philips do better in a reflector, in an H11 projector the Tungsrams do better. I haven’t tried comparing the bulbs in reflector fogs. Life of either won’t be as long as stock though.

 

Yeah after doing some more research, for my use of the fog lights, the OSRAM long life (or other brand) stockers will be the best

 

Note that Toyota doesn’t use long life (LL) bulbs in the Tacoma, they use Standard. Long Life lasts longer than standard but is lower output, so if looking to replace with the same pickup some Osram Standard H11s.

I picked up the Tungsram H11-55NHP/BP2 Nighthawk Platinum Automotive Bulb, 2-pack to replace the headlights and fog lights on my 2021 trd off road. The headlights wen in without a problem, the fog lights will not fit. The tabs look just like the factory bulb but I can't get this thing to go in. It seems like it's just a bit off.

Can anyone give me some guidance?

 

2020+ trucks do not have H11 fogs, they have low performance H16 fogs. You could find 16-19 TRD H11 fogs to swap in so you can run the higher performing H11s.

I actually have a pair of '17 factory fogs. if you want them and don't mind paying shipping, they're yours. I can send some pice when I get home from work in a couple hours.

 

If I was to get the H11 fog lights do I need a different wire harness to run them on my h16 2022 ? Thanks

 

Nope, the electrical connector is the same. Plug and play. I’d recommend installing one at a time, matching the cut off aim to the existing OEM light, then swapping the other and doing the same. A bit easier than aiming from scratch.
