Three years ago, the car dealership where I used to work had an RX300 (I forget the year) with over 200K and they were asking over five grand!

It's a car chassis with a tall roof. Nice vehicles though, nothing wrong with em. I'd take one for a winter beater

Yes, but more reliable than the 2010 Subaru it might be replacing...

They're super common around here, but vehicles last forever here. Someone has to kill em and an RX is nothing special

Only time will verify the claim of "more reliable". Buying used from an private owner is always an "AS IS" sale.

Yeah, but the issue is with the aforementioned Subaru is that my friend bought it on impulse without consulting me, any of her friends, or her mechanic; Two weeks later it blew a head gasket and an $8,000 Subaru turned into a $12,000+ Subaru. She now wants out of the Subaru; Daughter's 2010 Subaru suffered some sort of electrical malady recently and I now in the process of convincing them that Subarus aren't the greatest. I know Toyotas and Lexuses very well, and I have a trusted mechanic who can look over the green RX before a check is written.

AS-IS is not bad if you know what you're doing!

I'd give that RX a super close look, it's got bargain barrel cheapo tires on it. Someone that maintains their vehicles well is less likely to toss the eBay china rubbers on em.

No vehicle inspection in the world could predict a future failure.

Even your knowledge and your mechanic can not predict a future failure. At best, only the current condition of the vehicle can be established. The prior service history is also an unknown variable.

Very good observation; What do you think of Cooper Discoverers? I will never put anything else on my truck!

All depends on what you're looking for the Cooper Discoverer P rated AT3 are probably great on a 5 lug. I like the Discoverer STT Pro, that's what I have on my Tacoma. I run Kumho AT51 E-Load on my Land Cruiser, they've also been excellent, snow performance is incredible and they've survived some rather rough terrain too.

It could also be that the guy bought it to flip and it had been sitting for a while, and he put cheap tires on it just get it through inspection and maximize his profit.

Oh that's right y'all have inspections there. I've seen what people do to get things through inspections haha, what a pointless endeavor.

I hate paying a mechanic fifty bucks a year to tell me that my truck is in perfect working order!

We scrapped our emissions checking programs and never had vehicle inspections. It's nice

Safety inspections I kind of agree with, as they keep shitboxes with bad brakes off the road, but it's stupid shit like "illegally wired foglights" that makes me want to tell PennDOT to go pound sand. Emissions is a crock of shit, because my mechanic literally told me that as long as the check engine light isn't on and the emissions equipment hasn't been tampered with, a vehicle is going to pass the Pennsylvania emissions test!

My mechanic operates in an affluent area where a lot of his clients have Audis, BMWs, Benzes, Range Rovers, etc...

He says that I take way better care of my 12-year old Taco than most of his other customers take of their late model European cars, and that a lot of them including the ones with more entry-level vehicles, fail both emissions and safety because they neglect basic maintenance!

Ahh.....but you need to remember. There are those who just put gas in the vehicle then drive until failure.

You are conscientious about maintenance, many are not.

Remember, it is the state law. Like it or not. There are methods to affect changes.
