These guys are legit fabricators - https://instagram.com/nguyen_works

They've made a living by only making 3rd Gen 4Runner bumpers, and have moved forward to adding awesome tooling and expanding their catalog.

Started out as 2 brothers working from their garage.

Met them in person and hung out with them when I went to their shop for my bumper install.

They're another reason why I wanted to get into fab.

I looked for a good OEM replacement bumper for my '98 Taco for a long time with no luck. After searching a while, I came across this bumper from Shrockworks in Houston. Delivery is quite long, but it checked the right boxes for me. Overall, the weight is less and improved ground clearance than the OEM + trailer hitch frame. I should receive in February, so I can't comment on the actual results yet but fingers crossed:

200lbs? Sheesh, not even sure a swingout with a tire weighs that much, lol

I've had my eye on the 4xInnovations one, I have their sliders. But since I own a welder, I've also been looking at DIY kits, too. But as @Kwikvette will attest to, I haven't been driving it a ton lately either, so it hasn't been a huge priority, lol.

    https://nwtrailinnovations.com/toyo...mpers/1996-2004-toyota-tacoma-rear-bumper-kit

I think it'd be a no-brainer to have the shackle mounts be the mounting brackets as well. In other words, 3/4" plate that mounts directly to the frame, and the plate part builds around it. And I'm not actually sure if the NWTI one is built like that.

    lol @ "free shipping"

No, what you have is an $800-$900 bumper with the shipping charge included in the price.

Another reason I like DIY kits as you save a little on the shipping because it's not as bulky. I think it was $80 to ship my CBI front bumper kit.

For a rear bumper, I've seen plenty of people just get some 2"x3"x 3/16" square tube and make a few cuts to tape the sides for clearance.

I've seen the 4xinnovations one, I would probably want to have it painted professionally though to make sure it's well done and looks clean. My truck is admittedly more of a pavement princess than it is a an offroad/crawler.
Looks clean! Did you paint it yourself?

Yes, I used a few cans of VHT satin black roll bar and chassis paint and it came out surprisingly smooth and even. It was exactly the finish I was looking for.

Amazon.com: VHT ESP671007 Satin Black Roll Bar and Chassis Paint Can - 11 oz. : Everything Else

It is way cheaper at walmart/autozone btw

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

That chassis paint is legit! I've been painting a lot of my steel with it lately. Recently rebuilt my roof top tent rack and built a bed platform and coated it with that stuff. Also Painted the rear half of the frame with it last year when I boxed/reinforced it and added a crossmember.

That stuff lays down nice and even and dries well (even dries surprisingly well when it's colder than you'd want, when painting). And it dries nice and hard resisting scratches etc.

I just used high temp BBQ paint. It started because that's what I had laying around, but honestly the finish ends up looking pretty good.

I mean, it's not going to win any beauty contests, but it is a trail truck...

My Christmas present from 4xinnovations. Still painting the tire carrier and need to install the Rigid SR-M lights, but I like how the bumper looks on my ‘04. Easy installation with a hydraulic table from harbor freight.A5997D0B-E5CF-423B-83C9-C88B3C0366F3.jpg

Do those D-ring plates extend through the bumper to act as the frame mounts as well?

The D-ring plates pass through the bumper face and are lap joint welded to the members which anchor the bumper to the frame. I tried to take a picture so you could get a sense of the welds, but it’s mounted, nighttime, and the glossy black of the POR-15 coating played havoc with the camera flash.

If you have any questions about the design, I can tell you I was happy with the time Adam took answering all my questions before I ordered.
