I have been looking at Jetta TDI for a commuting car. Does anybody have any personal experience with TDIs?

My wife has one, it's a beast! She drives it like she stole it... over 120,000 on the odometer and it sips diesel! It's been good to her.

I'm considering the same thing for the same reasons.... I'm a German Car Tech with a pile of VW certs on the wall and the TDI's are one of the few cars I'd consider. 45 (give or take) MPG, a fun car to drive, a solid reliable car (can't really say that about the pre 2005 cars) and the DSG 6 speed tranny is great.....

After 18+ years working on this stuff it gets old and you really don't want to come home and see ANOTHER one in the garage. Having said that I wouldn't hesitate to buy any 2006 or newer VW........

I have been researching TDIs and online forums are scary. All they seem to talk about is what breaks on them and it is EXPENSIVE to fix. So the newer ones don't have as many problems. My brother has a 2006 with no problems, but the forums have scared me.
