I hate to kick a dead horse but I’ve owned 8 Toyotas over the course of 20 years and I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the stuff they have covered with zero fight on my end. Most recently a $1200 tonneau cover that was leaking.
They replaced the rims on our 18 Highlander with zero fight also. On my old Tundra they covered a SAIS pump well after the truck was out of warranty on account of my loyalty to that dealer. They have you up against it on account of owner meddling, sucks. Good luck

FYI, you can still cancel that extended warranty and get it pro-rated back… which in your case would be like 90-95% of it. You can always buy that Rav4 from a different dealer too.

yeah...makes me want to cancel mine too after dealing with Bergstrom Toyota in Oshkosh, sucks too even though i got another financial manager's word from a different Toyota that aftermarket upgrades don't negate your warranty unless it has something to mess with the computer's programming or anything above a 3 inch lift. bigger tires are okay too according to him.

    but how to cancel?

Just call your dealership and tell them you’d like to cancel it. They’ll have you come in, sign the paperwork and Toyota will send you a check in a few weeks for the pro-rated amount. I sold a ‘16 4Runner a few years ago to Carmax and was able to pro-rate the extended warranty on it after I sold it. I got over $1000 back.

It sounds silly, but best to disconnect the battery with anything electrical just to be safe. Too many expensive electronics these days to inadvertently fry.

    Legally, they do.

It just depends (as you stated in your post) how much time and money you want to put into it if they want to fight you.

Oh man! Ya'll are brutal. I come to the internet for a shoulder to cry on and I get bitch slapped!
    :crapstorm:

Truck is home. TPMS works. Gonna reschedule a full day for them to diagnose the fault.

@caribe makaira Thanks again for the input. Question...that thread referenced a ways back that Meso showed the fix of the trace is an absolute identical case in cause and effect. Given that and the successful fix they had, would you still suggest the MB-ECU is the culprit? Tony77 solved that issue by replacing the upper console.

OP, it is okay to vent. No slapping here ... It is also okay to ask for a shoulder to cry on. I think you know you screwed up ... but you know what? It happens. Don't beat yourself up. Sounds like you got the TPMS situation under control and have that problem solved. What are we looking at in terms of the cost to fix the electrical issue? Maybe if you play nice they will do it for a reasonable fee. Barking at them probably won't help. Good luck to you. Seriously. If it is a couple of hours and a few hundred bucks to fix, that's not terrible ...

I seriously wish you well and hope the cost is not too much for a lesson learned. Please post back what the cost is -- I would be curious to see how much this lesson learned will cost.

I would also add that if I ever screw up something electrical, I hope and pray that @caribe makaira answers my plea for help. That is some knowledge there ! :)

I was all in till you said youre one of those people that has xmas lights on in the parking lot. Seriously though the stealership is all a bunch of bs, they just wana do the toyota care easy shit, after that if your motor blows or tranny blows theyll give you a new one, but for stuff theyll fight you. Theres atleast one guy on here starting a thread about how ther tranny sucks and they take it in and toyota says its okay blah blah blah. Tpms thats normal a lot of tire shops eff em up thats why most of em say “were not responsible for breaking tpms or wheel damage”. The lights well that was you, you break you fix or ask them what they can do. Ahh makes me love my lil 97 4banger even more, got like 6 fuses, crank windows, manual lock, an actual key. In all seriousness gl op, ive learned if you slither your way thru the stealership you can get what you scream for.

Do not call them to cancel a warranty. Go in. They will give you the run around otherwise and you'll most likely have to sign paperwork anyways.

If you can find someone who'd allow you to "borrow" the upper console to test, you'd be a step ahead.
Another thing to do would be: at connector 1D on the Main Body ECU and with a proper test lamp, jump pins 19 (hot always) and 29 (ILE dimming to OFF).

    upload_2021-12-29_7-29-58.jpg

Press the door closed pin at the cab frame to send door closed signal and the test light should dim OFF. Release the door switch and the light illuminates.

Another location to test is IN1 behind the Driver's sail panel:

Use a thin probe on the wire side, no need to disconnect.

Those of you blaming him for frying the fuse/dimmer simply by changing the dome light are clearly Toyota fan bois.

Never have I ever had to, or thought to pull a fuse in a vehicle simply to change a bulb. That is completely asinine. And the fact this has happened more than once shows there is clearly a design flaw with the interior lighting circuit.

    You people disappoint/disgust me sometimes.

Legally the warranty is with Toyota proper unless it is a 3rd party warranty sold by dealer.

He is saying that it shouldn't blow up because he changed out the bulb.

I did the same thing ( bulb change) on my wife’s new Cx9 and fried a ecu. Fortunately the dealership fixed it for free since I didn’t tell them what I did. Mistakes happen.

Buy a Toyota with 13 computers and take your chances when not crossing your T's. I disconnect the Battery when doing anything electrical on this truck, just not worth the obvious headaches.

Yes, that's my argument but as I stated in my OP, I was honest with how it happened. I suppose I should have played the "I have no clue what's going on" since I left no trace. But rather than them telling me "you fucked up, you need to pay", they said "ohhh...you have a dash cam wire running under the front of your headliner so we likely can't warranty that issue!"

The TPMS issue was presented identically. "Oh...you have aftermarket tires so we can't warranty that!" In my eyes, 5000 miles of travel and flawless TPMS performance seems to disconnect the new tires from cause but that's just my opinion. As it turned out, it WAS Toyota's issue.

This kind of reminds me with standard interactions with a Fish & Game Warden. You are GUILTY till you can prove yourself innocent. This is the premise of my post. I have 10 years worth of warranty. I don't intend to cancel it over this issue but these simple situations make me wonder whether this is going to be the case for every single claim I roll in with? Seems like a pretty caustic approach rather than determining effect and presenting me with cause.
I guess you had to be there to see how it went down but what the hell, it's beating the dead horse at this point! o_O :deadhorse:

I love the TW. I knew I was gonna get blasted. :stirthepot: That's half the fun! :luvya:

I did! And the big one, too! I was able to swing a pretty damned good deal on it so I went for and the reason being, I'm likely gonna die with this truck in my possession. I'm still driving my Ranger SCab 4WD I bought new back in '98 that's still cherry and running like a top. Considering the electrical components on these modern rigs, the purchase of the warranty would save me some big coin and keep the truck rolling into its golden years.
