Gonna do brake pads and rotars, any advice?

    How did you blow thru a set of pads in 1 year?? At 5 days/week for 50 weeks 40 miles/day is only 10,000 miles.

    Are you driving with the left foot resting on the brake pedal?
    Brakes dragging?

    A set of pads, even the cheapest, should last well past 30,000 miles.

    I think you may have other problems with the brake system.

    When I used to live in the mountains, I replaced my brakes once a year. Now that I am in San Diego (flat, surface roads, freeways) it's a different story. However, 40 miles a day in PHX doesn't sound like the pads should be toast in a year.

    Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
    It would not be much different then any other brake hydraulic failure !!

    Just to push back on the Akebono pads a little: you can get ceramic brake pads anywhere, and Oreilly/Autozone will do lifetime warrantys, meaning when they wear out and you keep the receipt and pads, you get new free ones of the same or equal value (if the old pads are discontinued).

    Akebono is OEM. At least for some Toyotas.

    not to hijack this thread, but I have a 2003 DC TRD and need to know what size(diameter) is the front rotors. I've seen two different sizes listed for these trucks.

    All that's needed is to go with OEM parts. My '96 4x4 has 415,000 miles on it and OEM brake components have served me the best over the last 25 years.

    Thanks for the info, I'm hoping that someplace local can turn the Rotors and Drums. They only have 145K miles on them.

    If the rotors are too thin or grooved, don't mess with turning them. You will find replacement rotors are less cost. Same for the drums.

    145k? Seems like you've definitely made them last. Everyone has a different budget but personally, for $180 bucks to have new rotors and pads up front, I'd go that route. As Knute mentioned, wouldn't mess with trying to turn em'. Could certainly do it for even less with other brands.

    think there is other problems......most likely the front/back proportioner....what ever its called

    Long shot is your parking brake adjusters in rear hub may be off, or sticky or shot......how good does your parking brake hold especially when put in drive?

    Whoever did mine brake last bent that little bar that turns the star adjuster....it would stab in middle of star instead of at side....causing it to lock until popped loose with screw driver......this got old real quick.....

    I'm definitely going with akembo brake pads this go round. Haven't decided yet which rotors to get. I have to be a smart shopper since I live on a fixed income. Looking at my options from all the local parts stores, Autozone, Advance, O'reilly, Nappa. Not in a big rush, my front pads still look decent. Going to pull a rear drum on the next dry weather day and see what the rears look like.
