This is false. Many European Vehicles commonly have them from the factory in the US models, such as Land Rover, Audi as well as others.

I'll be more specific a single rear light is legal, unlike Europe that allow two bright rear fogs. I can picture the back end of a Tacoma now looking like they are driving around with their foot on the brake when there isn't even any fog.

1 is on the driver side is a better practice, for that very reason 2 look like brake lights and are harder to tell when a vehicle may be braking in poor weather.

2 is legal but confusing the first couple of times you see them. Hmm, I wonder if they know their brake lights are stuck on and 3rd light isn't working.

That is a big jumble of information with no definitive information but that's OK it has been that way for years. NTHSA used to say one but if you would like to post your info have at it for all to see. The car manufactures basically say no one cares or they would have added them. Coming up on one in the US more than likely will panic the driver behind them. I spent a good deal of time in Europe years back I can tell you this they are better drivers.

3" OME lift, heavy coils f/r 3/16" steel skids Modified Coastal Offroad diy bumper 5spd swap ('98 donor)

What's really fun/confusing is the kia models that now have the running lights up where you expect them, and the brake/turn signals mounted low in the bumper, where you don't. Similarly, ever since the jeep Cherokee offered the headlights in the mid bumper valence where you would expect the freaking fog lamps to be... there's a few other companies that have followed suit.

1 rear fog on the driver side definitely is less confusing than a matching pair, especially when people don't understand why/when they should/n't be using their front fogs as well.

With all due respect and the spirit of Christmas let's just say your they're illegal post doesn't offer any more information. There is one article on the web (so it has to be true) that says they're illegal and it has been reposted in many other web pages. But here's one fact from the amber fog light ticket thread. OK 47-12-217 clearly states you can have 2 resr fog lights. Just getting ready to start my 500 mile night so I can't dig up the SAE rear fog info but it's there.

As for European drivers being better I'm guessing you are referring to England or Germany. I can tell you for a fact the eastern bloc drivers all running around in the IL domiciled Volvos are some of the worst most discourteous drivers around. 40" LED light bars on, never turn high beams off, speed up to stay in front of you then jam on their brakes when they pull in front of you etc...

I do agree one rear fog is less confusing but the land rover that passed me last night with 2 came that way from the factory.

You may be the only one here that will understand this one. I always special ordered my F-150's so I got exactly what I wanted. I actually found a way to order a "dual media" sound system on one of them. It was AM/FM/CD/Cassette! When it came in, my dealer said he never saw any Ford vehicle with one of those bad boys. Ah, those were the days ...

I loved the days before option packages so you could order it exactly how you wanted it. Ordered some before that the dealer was turning his nose up on and then when it showed up they were praying that I wouldn't want it.

in some very confusing numbers both Rigid and BD got back to me. BD has the S2 sports with red spot lenses. You'd think these would be absolutely blinding but their reply was they have 89cd. Still scratching my head on that one. But even more surprising to me was the answer when I spoke to someone at Rigid. He said they didn't have a cd number but had a lux measurement number.....20 lux at 10 meters and with crashes help with a calculator that is 2000cd, 2000cd for a diffused red lens. You can switch them to low power which is 20% so that would be 400cd.

I am trying to resist but I may have to buy a color LED light meter and each of these lights and test them for myself. Holy crap I hate this forum.

Also on the candlepower forum there is someone who keeps answering with questions like can this be used that if it isn't a fog light it won't work but looking at what I can see from the SAE specs don't see a whole lot of difference between a rear fog and brake light. then again I don't understand this stuff like crashnburn80.
