    Howdy folks,

I am getting a chance to actually use my 4x4 tomorrow with my trip to the snow, I think I know how to work the 4x4 but to save myself from embarrassment (and potential danger) I will ask you folk how to PROPERLY engage my 4wd. Do I have to be stopped to engage my 4x4? After I press the button the 4x4 shift nob to I move it to L4 or high? return it to neutral after? Thank you all

Your truck may have a sticker or decal card somewhere (visor?).

Otherwise, just push the button. That enables 4Hi and can be done so while moving (up to 55mph) or stationary.

You could get by with just 2Hi and some weight in the bed and quality tires.

Airing down will help a lot too.

Just make sure you're not doing sharp turns at slow speeds, specifically on high traction surfaces, if in 4 wheel drive.

4hi unless you are really in a bad situation, where you want to travel very, very slowly. Unless you have really aggressive tires, a little momentum can be your friend, so as inexperienced as it sounds like you are my vote is 4hi and moderate speeds.

I would pass, seems like your new to wheeling and learn more. But lock the huns if you have manuals, doesnt matter in P, N, or D you can put it in 4high under 50mph, just w/o throttle. 4Lo put the trans in N then put it in 4Lo. When getting out of 4lo put it in N first. Offroading you can get in trouble real quick, be careful. Make sure you take recovery and get aquianted w/ the place.

As @YotaGangYotaGang said, I would highly recommend limiting what you plan to do in the snow, unless you have someone with more experience to go with you.

If you're just planning to head up to the local ski resort, by all means go, but if you're planning to do some "snow wheeling" I would avoid it with such limited experience. Things can go seriously sideways, and being in the snow, could turn into a life/death situation.

Suggest you test the truck 4x4. Do you know that the 4x4 works?

Get chains (not wires) and learn how to put them on.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
My question I really hope you just bought the truck!!!

If you had it a year things might not work like your hoping !!

Better safe then go to engage and it does not work after your stuck food and water are always good in the winter while waiting for help

    Good luck!!

Take a shovel. If you get stuck in snow, a shovel is your best friend. I like a regular garden shovel, but any shovel will be way better than trying to scoop out snow with your hands.

Howdy folks, thanks for all the support! The trip went great with no snafus, the road wasn't too bad at all and the 4x4 handled it easier than I expected. Now to start to learn how to actually 4x4? Where does a novice like me learn with no friends or family that do the activity?
