I’m having some second thoughts about not getting an extended warranty on my new Tacoma I purchased in June 21’. Due to the times we’re in the dealer wouldn’t budge on 7 yr/100k warranty for less than $3k. 2 years prior we got the same warranty on my wife’s 4Runner for like $1,200. Do I have any options in still getting some level of added coverage on the truck through toyota? I have a few dealers near me, should I reach out and see if anyone can make me a deal?

You mean, nobody’s reached out about your vehicle’s extended warranty?

Yes, you have up until the end of the factory warranty to purchase the extended warranty.
    3 years or 36k miles

i dont know why they wouldnt, thats money in the bank for them at a chance of you never using it for even a 10% of the real cost to repair the truck.

I think you still can. You may want to check with one of your local dealers, but be prepared to pay more than the price you got back when you purchased the truck.
In my opinion, extended warranties are rarely worth your money. Just my penny thought.

Thank you. I thought I had heard that somewhere. I have a pretty good local dealer who may work with me. I purchased the vehicle from another dealer who had good sales people but jerks in the finance office.

If you'd asked me I'd say go for it...
Why? You own a 3rd gen Tacoma, they have problems, if you don't know about the well known timing cover leak on most 3rd gen Tacomas then id say look into it a little bit. I've heard they don't happen much on 2018+ but mines a 2017 and I've had this problem and so have others. But not to mention also other people have rear diff problems as well. We all know the Tacoma is an awesome vehicle and reliable, and fun but these 3rd gens don't seem to hold up as to the same reliability standards as well as the older 2nd and 1st gen. I've owned many of these trucks that were used and abused hard and haven't had many problems. I purchased my 3rd gen still under warranty at 19k miles but had no idea it had a leak in the timing cover for several years. I've maintained it religiously, But just fyi where I live it costs 5 grand to fix it and that's just an estimate. My truck still runs and drives fine but I don't have the money to properly fix the leak nor would I want to pay 5k to fix a small leak.

That’s what I’m afraid of. I was really shocked by the extended warranty price they threw out when I bought the truck. I worked them pretty good on the price I guess tho and got it for just a little under msrp, maybe they were just done haggling at that point. My wife’s 4Runner warranty only cost us a little over 1k so I was bummed when they quoted me 3k

Saw this posted a week or so ago. Prices were supposedly still pretty much as listed.

You can get your warranty from any Toyota dealer.

    Might try calling this one.

I don't know for sure as I don't do extended warranties, so I don't have any first hand experience. Someone posted it a week or so ago so I swooped it up to have on hand for the next guy.

I'd suggest giving them a call and see what you can score. Report back here so others know (and myself) know if all is legit.

Googled the dealer and looked at the “meet our team” page and she is the listed finance manager so it looks legit. Wether I could score that price having already bought the vehicle and without them being able to do any kind of inspection since I’m across the country are possible factors but it’s encouraging to know there’s options out there. I’m still glad I didn’t bite down on the $3k price tag I got from the dealer I bought from.

Those prices are real. It's what I paid with my dealer. :)

I've seen that post before. Several have purchased extended warranties from her.

I didn't buy it with mine. I think I was pitched a 3-5 year with around 75-100k miles for about $1200-$1500 back in December 2016 when I bought it. I probably could have negotiated it down a bit and it wasn't a bad deal in hindsight now that I think about it. However, if something major breaks I'll buy something else. My trucks already 5 years old and gone up in value significantly according to KBB anyway.:rofl:

BTW, having worked at car dealerships I can say those extended warranties are almost pure profit for the dealer and are marked up significantly. :spending:

I have never bought an extended warranty in 45 years of driving. Mainly buy new and mainly buy Toyota products. Also, do all maintenance myself. If I do have a major mechanical issue down the road, I can cover the cost myself with the money I have saved over the years.

If you are not able to set aside money saved to only be used for mechanical repairs (and nothing else), then an extended warranty might be worth the peace of mind.

Many people may not be in my situation to have saved money for a major repair or be able to do the repair themselves (I also have access to a shop where I could pull the engine myself if needed).

Truly, the decision to get an extended warranty or to self warranty is each individual's choice. Just stating what has worked well for me.
