That’s actually a very good question. I don’t know then answer but I’d like to.

slow leak wont amount to much oil loss. Ive had cars with RMS leaks and it amounted to maybe 1/2 quart every 3k miles. gasket sealant on the outside might work as a temporary solution but those types of sealants are made to be compressed between 2 pieces of metal so take that for what its worth.

Gotcha. I can only imagine the a leak in the timing cover wouldn't be as crucial as an RMS leak, but maybe Im naive to that? Just hoping I can live with it for a bit as long as i monitor the oil levels.

Same here past this point at 69k I'm about sure it started at 19k and nobody ever spotted it including me. If you really want to pay your dealer 5k to pull your motor out and reseal it go for it but don't be upset if they screw something else up in the process

I wonder why you cannot just remove the front cover without removing the engine, I have done timing chain jobs on various v6 engines and if the front cover is flat where it meets the oil pan I always just r&r the cover. To remove the engine and cab to do this sounds extream . I'd like to make a video and post it on you tube and how I did it, if it could be done

What's the actual gasket cost? $5-$10?

No warranty for me , it’s out of pocket for me . I’m just weighing out my options . I don’t mind doing it and in the meantime I’d re hear my truck but the more I dig into gears, the more hesitant I become. The gear whining has me worried, rem polished not polished , cyro?

I'm definitely in the same boat as you.. I'm sure it's not good to just leave it like so but my oil change is coming up and I just picked this up (Lucas oil stop leak) at tractor supply the other day but I've heard from other people online it's not worth it for my problem but what would you think?

That's not meant for long term and I wouldn't recommend it anyway. Use the permatex black gasket masker if you don't want to tear the engine apart.

Thanks man, if that's the only option then I'm going to have to just go with a new gasket or permatex. Im just more concerned on how I could access the timing cover. I really don't have the tools to pull the motor out and I've never dropped a transfer case before which may be what I'd have to do for my truck since it's 4x4. I'm pretty upset that after owning many 1st gens and 2nd gens that they built the new 3rds with engineering flaws to do the work for such a small issue.
