On the topic of skids, one thing that hasn't been mentioned is that the skids made by the small fab shops have a potentially stronger design that bolts flush to the frame instead of using spacers like the TRD skid. The consequence is that you need to remove the two frame supports on the front. Why Toyota decided not to remove those two supports is unknown. It could be because it would require a whole new set of crash dummy tests... just speculating.

The purpose of the spacers is to clear the 2 frame braces. Also the TRD skid uses larger hardware (frame bolts) in the front rather than the small screws used to attach the sheetmetal pan that comes on the non-Pro trims.

Only the OR and Pro come with a recovery hook on the front. The other trims have a tow loop as I remember.

I considered buying the recovery point for my 2016 SR5, but ended up trading it in for a 2020 OR.

    Darn,

I thought I had a better pic of the 2 frame braces...but the skid plate (which has been replaced with the TRD Skid) on my Sport, covers it.
